Fruity Fun 40’s Summerwear

Hello sweet friends! Welcome to another edition of Fashion Friday. Today is Fruity Fun 40’s Summerwear.

I have been trying to create a summer capsule wardrobe. If you’re not familiar with the term capsule wardrobe it is, in essence,: the building blocks in your closet that are the foundation of your style. They generally are timeless, classic pieces. I feel cooler in blues, aquas, and greens. Most of the pieces are cotton as it works well in the Texas heat.

I found this 1940’s pattern at an estate sale for around $1. The blouse went together fairly smoothly. The directions on facing the yoke could have been a bit more clear. A brand new beginning seamstress or tailor might need some assistance.

The vintage fabric is also an estate sale find. I absolutely LOVE the print!

The skirt was made from a reproduction pattern I purchased during a recent $1.99 sale. It was a fantastic pattern. I will probably make this one again and again.

Because my vintage fabric was just 34 inches wide I did have to fold the pattern in half and cut two of each piece. So instead of two seams, I have four.

In the end, I felt that the blouse was a bit “young” for me. After all, I turned 52 yesterday! (smile) So it was mailed off to the Fashionista who loves the fruity fabric too.

The skirt has already been worn quite a few times. It’s bright and fun.

What a beautiful blouse and skirt! Sweet, sweet patterns, just love them! I’m not much of a seamstress, costumes and stockings and little girl dresses, that is it! I do love sewing though.
    Have a great weekend, Laura!
