Welcome to Irving Berlin’s White Christmas Themed Home Tour. Today I am joining my dear friend Marty from A Stroll Thru Life on her annual Christmas tour of homes. This year Storybook Cottage has been transformed into the Columbia Inn located in beautiful Pine Tree, Vermont to celebrate the 65th anniversary of a beloved holiday film classic.
Irving Berlin’s White Christmas Themed Home Tour
If you are coming over from Inspiration For MomsĀ I am so glad that you are here! Laura always has the most fabulous holiday decor.
Growing up, White Christmas was an annual viewing tradition in our home. It continues even today. Earlier this year my youngest asked for “a real live tree just like in the final scene of the movie, mom”. After that, our 2019 holiday theme just took off.
The front door features evergreens, berry red, and snow, Snow, SNOW. You can see the entire porch HERE.
As you enter our home it is a great room that contains a small entry, as well as the living area, and formal dining space.
I was inspired by the traditional holiday decor used at the inn.
It features several evergreen garlands and wreaths.
As well as some Christmas bells paired with a liberal dose of berry red.
In the entry, a simple wreath is paired with a gorgeous live poinsettia arrangement given to us by our lovely neighbor Becky.
The tray is layered with vintage figurines, mercury bead garlands, and ornaments.
From there you can see the living room.
The hearth was layered to give it a cozy abundant feel.
In the movie, Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) carries a sack of presents wrapped in shiny foil. One special gift, a white knight, is given to him by his sweetheart, Betty Haynes (Rosemary Clooney).
Similarly, I found foil wrapping at HomeGoods. It is color coordinated for each family member. Mr. Decor’s gifts are wrapped in the gold foil paper tied with red ribbon. His personalized tags are wee white knights.
The mantel is swathed in even more greenery, red berries, and bells.
For the coffee table, I gathered my grandparent’s collection of bottle brush trees and created a small snowy village.
I just love this pillow that gives a nod to the ski lodge. Tinker the Elf stands guard.
Most noteworthy is the star of the show, the tree.
Our White Christmas Tree
The tree that started it all is a traditional 1950’s Christmas tree.
It features:
- A live Fraser fir tree.
- Large colored lights.
- Popcorn garland.
- Shiny Brite ornaments.
- Lots of tinsel.
For many years we have used an artificial tree. Sure, they’re perfectly shaped. They don’t need watering or drop a million needles.
But they lack…charm. In addition, live trees have such an incredible SMELL!
The tree is covered in popcorn garland, with 125 large colored bulb lights, over 200 vintage Shiny Brite ornaments, and 3000 strands of tinsel.
Did you see the base of the tree? It’s a nod to the train scene.
I couldn’t resist tucking a vintage glittery gold Santa into the boxcar.
Were you wondering why there was a clothed mannequin next to the tree?
In another post, I shared how I recreated one of my all-time favorite costumes. It is the Judy Haynes engagement scene outfit.
It’s even better in motion on my Youtube channel.
The Dining Area
Our formal dining area took a cue from the white tablecloths, champagne glasses and classic vintage Santa centerpieces shown in the final scene.
Simple and traditional elegance.
A mixture of fresh and faux greenery was used.
Each place setting has a fragrant bouquet.
A step by step tutorial for the White Christmas centerpiece can be found HERE.
The same elements are repeated on the sideboard.
The main focal point is the cake.
Yesterday was Mr. Decor’s birthday. We had a small cake featuring a white tank and slim red candles just like in the film.
Be sure to stop by House By Hoff. April’s created a truly happy holiday home.
On Thursday I will be sharing my White Christmas inspired kitchen.
I hope you’ll come back. You’re going to love the color!
May your days be merry and bright,
Laura

Thank you for sharing your home with us. The tree brought back memories of going to the tree farm to select our tree. It always had a special place of honour in the bay window. And it was always covered with tinsel.

I love how you pull a theme together and your White Christmas is amazing, such detail. I really couldn’t pick a favorite, I loved it all. The video of you and hubby dancing is such a fun treat and of course, the tree is amazing. Thanks so much for joining the tours again this year, it is always so fun to have a visit with you. Love your home all decorated for Christmas, Mrs. Decor!!!
The video was cute and the kids at school really enjoyed seeing it! After seeing your home all decorated I had to watch the film when it popped up on Netflix earlier this week. Your re-creation of Judy Haynes’ dress and everything in your home is spot on! Very well done and beautiful.
My favorites are the mini Christmas trees and the little elves ~ family mementos from long ago. The best!!!
Happy Christmas hugs to you, the pups and Mr. Decor and Sweet One,
