Sixty-five years ago the holiday movie classic White Christmas starring Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney was released. It was a holiday viewing tradition for me as a child. As a parent I have loved introducing the film to my own kids. A few months ago Sweet Guy requested “a real live Christmas tree decorated with tinsel just like at the end of the film.” This request led to an entire holiday home theme this year. Let’s kick things off with our 1954 Holiday Door Decor.
1954 Holiday Door Decor
My dear friend Amber of Follow The Yellow Brick Home has organized a great group of decorators to inspire you to create happy holiday front door decor. If you are coming over from Common Ground may I say “Welcome!” I adore how Debra puts a vintage spin on her holiday door.
My own front door decor was inspired by the colors and lush greenery used in the classic holiday musical.
I tried to also capture the essence of the Columbia Inn located in fictional Pine Tree, Vermont.
The front door features a evergreen garland, touches of berry red and snow, SNOW, SNOW!
A wee pair of skis is a nod to the lodge.
If you like more neutral decor you may enjoy last’s year’s front porch.
It featured soft shades of white, taupe and gray.
We hope you’ll come back to visit soon.
We’ve recreated a White Christmas inspired kitchen, tree and other finale decor.
Up next is Our Southern Home. You will absolutely love the wreath that Christy has created!
May all your days be merry and bright!

The front view of the costume is even better!
Do you guys also watch Holiday Inn? although it is dated in some attitudes, it helps one to understand the second film better…..

I love White Christmas and after reading your post, I want to watch it again. Your 1950’s outfit made me smile, I love it!
Your entrance looks so beautiful and is a wonderful way to greet your guests this holiday season.

Well, anyone who does a door and holiday themed on my favorite movie has my vote! I love your Judy Haines skirt (and the video, which was great — you two are quite the dancers!). The door is lovely. I wish I had just a tad more space around my door for decor. Ah well, I overkill in the house! It’s truly lovely, Laura!

Laura,
Love it and it reminds me of White Christmas. I love that movie and the song snow, snow, snow on the train they take is playing in my head.
Love the small skies too. You look adorable too.

Oh I love your pretty picture and your porch is gorgeous. White Christmas is a favorite movie of mine too.
CoCo says
This is so creative Laura! I love your porch both ways but wow that red really pops! You look amazing as always. White Christmas is one of my all time favorite movies but I’ve never thought about recreating it for holiday home decor. You are so clever – it’s all fantastic! Hugs, CoCo

Both your porch versions are beautiful, Laura. love the farmhouse galvanized pieces you’ve used with the snowflakes and paperwhites. so pretty. Have to tell you that skirt takes the Christmas cake!! adorable!

Oh my goodness, you’re wearing Judy’s outfit! We love watching White Christmas every year. I can’t wait to show your post to my husband who loves the movie maybe even more than I do. Beautiful door and porch Laura!
Katie Mansfield says
Love this. I cannot wait to see all of your holiday decor. Holiday Inn is my favorite Christmas movie. It actually featured the song, “White Christmas” before the movie did.
I love your costume. You have the perfect shape for a full 1950’s style skirt.
Calypso in the Country says
You look awesome in that pretty skirt! Love the porch and your whole theme. My husband always wants tinsel on the Christmas tree because it reminds him of being a kid. We tried it one year (when we were first married) but I’ve banned it ever since – ha! Great hopping with you again!

It won’t be long before we’ll all be there with snoooow. I wanna wash my hands, my feet and hair with snoooow.
LOL Laura, you crack me up! Now that song is stuck in m head. James and I were just talking about going to see that at the Palace Theater in Grapevine last night. It’s his all time favorite Christmas movie. Mine is Holiday Inn and the Bishop’s Wife. Love your porch and I’ll be showing it to James too.

White Christmas is one we watch every year. And the Christmas trees of my childhood were draped with tinsel, too. Somehow I never got tinsel after I married, though. I love the little nod to the movie with the skis.
Carol Cook says
You are absolutely the cutest. I can’t wait to see what vintage outfits you will create.

Love the porch decor and your outfit, too, right down to the red shoes!

Laura,
Your front door is delightful in its White Christmas movie theme, but that red BELT steals the show. I love seeing how you create decor around themes all during the year. I hope you are able to come on Saturday to my French Country Christmas Event. Katie (Let’s Add Sprinkles) and Cindy (Country Rd 407) also said they hope to come. It would be wonderful if you three were able to come at the same time for a mini blogger Christmas retreat on my back porch.
Joyeux Noël,
Judith

Laura what a truly delightful post! I love White Christmas! I had the honor of directing a large scale production of this beloved musical about 6 years ago. Your porch looks so festive and welcoming and you and your sweet fur baby look swell!
Thank you for joining the hop. I hope all YOUR days are merry and bright! Merry Christmas!

Laura, your porch is so pretty in both this year’s rendition of White Christmas and last year’s softer neutrals. Love your White Christmas theme!!! The big pinecones look good. 🙂
