A Kansas Prairie Party

It’s not uncommon that I routinely have large groups of houseguests or numerous dinner companions. Recently I enlisted the help of Gracie the doxie to open out our formal dining table all the way.

 A Kansas Prairie Party

The table design began with sage green linen fabric to represent the summer prairie.

A table runner was created with old lace doilies and vintage paperback pages. (Harlequin Romances for the win!)

A Kansas Prairie Party

This particular party was to celebrate the new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie.

Several mini bouquets were created with wild summer roses and cheerful sunflowers, the official state flower of Kansas where the show is set.

TIP: I decorate the table and buffet at least a day before the party. By setting out all the serving dishes, as well as the utensils, saves time on a busy party day and helps to avoid last minute scrambling.

Little Hearth on the Prairie

Pony would like to enthusiastically take you on a tour of the buffet.

The decorating theme was continued with book pages, lace and cheerful floral arrangements.

One sweet treat that was served was Ma’s Vanity Cakes mentioned in the chapter Country Party from On The Banks of Plum Creek. So good!

The summer fruit has been incredible this year! This peach galette was delicious.

From Farmer Boy the classic dish of Apples and Onions. It pairs so deliciously with chicken and pork!

The pulled pork sandwiches were wrapped up in wax paper and tied with twine.

I hope you have enjoyed this summer soiree.

Everything looks delish Laura…and I always have a warm spot for my home state Kansas… born and raised there and still have lots and lots of family there….and we go back often and stay several months before returning to our retirement state Florida. Love everything about your beautiful table….and of course the books are perfect centerpiece. Have a Blessed day.

What a fun table, Laura! Love the book pages, the books, and the pops of sunflowers throughout. Hope your traveling is going well; what a fun experience. Hope your time in MN was good! Think I need to sign up for Netflix and do a Little House binge on these hot nights:)

Laura, your prairie table is absolutely beautiful with all the soft greens, browns and tans of the prairie. This prairie girl is in love!!!!! I am happy that you have the original copies of Laura’s books, too. I’ve been looking. Found a 1970’s Spanish version of one book, but not the originals. 😉 And you made a peach galette! I just made one last week as I really wanted peaches. Charles liked it, so that was a win! Pinned a bunch for you. <3 Hope your trip to Kansas goes well, but now I realize you are already there (or maybe even home). I know you were just travelling. 😉

Hope your friends enjoyed supping with you,
    Big hugs,
    Barb 🙂

I literally laughed out loud at Pony trying to figure out how to jump up on top of the buffet. Your centerpiece is perfect and so unique! I love it. And that’s how you serve pulled pork sammies! I will have to remember that! Thank you for joining in. pinned

What a treasure to have those books! I so adored the show as a child and am looking forward to watching the remake on Netflix. It sure has big shoes to fill. Seriously, you have so many wonderful ideas for a book party.
