Welcome to my Touch Of Tartan Holiday Home Tour. I am delighted to be included in this wonderful event hosted by Lynn at Living Large In A Small House and Amy at Amy Sadler Designs.

You can find all of the gorgeous home tours at the bottom of this post. Feel free to return here each day to visit as the tours go live.

This Year’s Inspiration
I change my holiday theme every single year and begin preparing months in advance. You may have heard that the biggest trend in decorating this year is a Ralph Lauren Christmas. It may appear that I am jumping on that bandwagon. However, as a rule, I don’t follow trends. All of my decor is very personal and heartfelt. This year is no different.
This week, my son, known on DTA as Sweet Guy, is marrying his sweet girl. I recently shared their amazing engagement photos on my Instagram.

I think it is fairly evident that this happy young couple LOVES vintage. It truly shows in their personal style.

Vintage Holiday Kitchen Tour
Let’s start in the kitchen which is truly the heart of our home.
This space is definitely cozy and every inch is used.

I use trays and dishes to gather together items we use every single day.

Tinker the Elf and Friends
Let’s take a closer look inside the glass fronted cabinet. It changes with the seasons. For the holidays it currently holds several special items that belonged to my great grandmother, Lenora Bradley.
A touch of tartan was added in several areas.

It’s hard to believe that this kitchen was once all orange brick and dark oak cabinets. You can read about the transformation HERE.

A decorative chain was created for the copper pot hanger with pretty plaid ribbon and hot glue.
A vintage silver ice bucket corrals all of the cooking utensils.

Breakfast Nook
We also have a small eat in area next to the kitchen.
I scored the plaid table runner and napkins last year at Hobby Lobby at the end of the season for 90% off.

It works well with the antique red and white transferware we collected while stationed overseas.

A favorite collection of antique sleigh bells nestles in a small bowl. It’s a fun way to call the family to the table.
Family Favorites
The antique shelf in the nook also gets updated each season.
The collection of bottle brush Christmas trees once graced the homes of my grandparents.

Grandma Mary loved her wee elves.
Santa was always was placed in the center. The tradition continues.
This guy… his face. He always makes everyone smile.
Touch Of Tartan Holiday Home Tour
Storybook Cottage often features more than one Christmas tree. I absolutely love this tartan festooned beauty in our family room.

All of the colors were pulled from the Gunn tartan in celebration of a new member joining our clan.

Inverclyde and Stewart tartan ribbon is nestled along with navy velvet.

The tree also features vintage family ornaments, as well as hand-blown ornaments that were collected while we were stationed in Germany, where the groom waas born.

The end tables also received a bit o’ plaid and baubles, as well as some vintage holiday photos.

The shelves are decorated with vintage ceramics and books arranged in seasonal shades.

Some of my favorite German smokers and Nutcrackers.

Not quite gold, frankincense, and myrrh, but I do adore this antique infant child of Prague that my dear friend Donna recently gifted me.
She knew I would need both miracles and blessings to do a home tour the same week as my son’s wedding.
My son asked for the room to be dripping with Christmas decor so I also hung some stars from the curtain rod.

The bookcase on the other side of the couch is decked out too.

Vintage ceramic figurines and a lantern provide a cozy glow.

I hope this holiday home tour has put a song in your heart.

I will be taking the rest of the week off to celebrate. Congratulations Megan and Ian!
