Hello, sweet friends, welcome to Seasonal Saturdays. Today, I am sharing some early holiday decor with a few of my favorite creative friends. This wonderful collection of ideas has been gathered together by Follow the Yellow Brick Home. Amber has created a seasonal look that you will love. I hope you will enjoy our new Holiday Guest Room.
The Inspiration
A few weeks ago, we moved most of Sweet Guy’s furniture over to his new home in anticipation of his upcoming wedding. Most of our fun money is going towards the wedding festivites right now. So the bulk of the decorating for this space needed to be with things we already had or that could be obtained inexpensively.
I turned to Pinterest for inspiration. The image below features a wall color that is similar to the space that needed to be updated. It led me to consider seperating our antique daybed into two twin headboards.
This image reminded me that two vintage matelassé coverlets, that had once belonged to Mr. Decor’s Grandma Joyce, were just sitting in the linen cabinet. Our attic also contains a wide variety of artwork to choose from.
Our first set of houseguests will be arriving next week for the wedding. As we are now entering the holidays I thought a few seasonal touches would add some lovely cheer, similar to this image.
The Quilts
In all of the inspiraton images above there are quilts shown folded at the end of each bed. That was the one thing I did not have. But I did have a lovely quilt topper that my dear friend Dartanyan had recently made for me.
I decided to create two Eiderdown-styled quilts. I sandwiched some cotton batting in between a heavier cotton backing and pinned everything in place with a 1000 safety pins.

Somehow I was able to roll the layers up and stitch the twin size quilts on my small Janome.
Reality check ~ this part of the project did take about 16 hours.

Several of the steps to create the quilts were done on the floor, so I had plenty of helpers.

Lastly, I added adding some blue and cream checked fabric to the edge as binding. It matched the curtains that I also ended up sewing for the room. I had my assistants on hand for each step.
I am absolutely sure you will want to Pin this photo. LOL
No doxies were harmed during this process.

Holiday Guest Room
I am so happy with how the space turned out.

As it is still early November I didn’t want to go overboard with Christmas decor. I am old school in that I generally don’t decorate until after Thanksgiving. We celebrate the full 12 days of Christmas so the decor stays up until Epiphany on January 6th.
The winter scene and red check pillows were found on sale at Target. The blue checked pillow and pillow case (from a sheet set) were a HomeGoods find few years ago.
This cozy decor is seasonal, but it can be used for several months.

Support Small Makers
The artwork that hangs above each bed is from Sleightholm Folk Art. Heather, the artist, has a lovely website and Etsy shop.

They were given to me by my friend Winette who owns a line of Colonial-inspired teas.

Between the two beds is a small round table that was found a few years ago at HomeGoods.
I often travel for work and enjoy good lighting, as well as a nice bedside water caraffe. So I wanted to include these touches in the guest room.

There are luxiourious mattress toppers on each of the beds to assist in a wonderful nights sleep. The height they add shortens the coverlets but I am ok with that.

Vintage Lighting
In the corner is a vintage adjustable lamp that once hung in my Grandma and Grandpa Ingalls home.

The light works on a pulley system and can be raised and lowered.

This corner also features some very special art by Renée Graef. She is a wonderfully talented illustrator. This print is titled Dance at Grandpa’s. It depicts my great great great grandfather, Lansford Whiting Ingalls, dancing with Caroline while Mary and Laura look on. I purchased the print this past summer when I met the charming Ms. Graef. You can find her artowrk in her Etsy shop.

A Cheerful Workspace
On the opposite wall I have set up a work area. As someone who travels quite a bit, and often needs to work, I appreciate a quiet area to do so.

It is much appreciated when a host provides their Wi-Fi and password information, as well as other items, to make a guests stay more comfortable.

As the room is on the second floor and looks onto our numerous oak trees it does feel a bit like staying in a tree house.
The curtains feature the same fabric that binds the edges of the quilts.

My dear friend Donna gifted me this antique fan and the Victorian artwork Jesus in the Temple.

You may sense a recurring theme in this guest room. It includes many cherished treasures gifted to me by dear friend and family members.
To me, this is what the holidays are all about.
In the coming weeks I will be adding more holiday touches to the room and throughout the house so stay tuned.

Next is County Road 407. You will love Cindy’s favorite fall moments around her home.

Oh how quant and lovely!!! The perfect spot for a good book.❤️
Dear Donnajoy, you are welcome to make a reservation to stay at any time. 🙂
What an exciting time with the wedding coming up! With all your beautiful updates, your guests will surely feel welcome. I’m so impressed with your sewing skills too. The pretty quilts are the perfect addition to the lovely room. I also love the layering of your pillows and the meaningful touches around the bedroom. Thanks for sharing!
Shelley
Thank you so much Shelley! I adored your tablescapes today!
Laura, the guest room looks terrific! You did a fabulous job with the twin quilts. Love how the trim matches the curtains, and the layers of pattern on the pillows are sharp. That working pulley lamp is handsome!
Thank you dear Rita. This is such high praise as you are such a lovely tastemaker.
This is the most inviting guestroom. Cozy, comfortable, warm and welcoming. You’ve thought of your guest’s needs. I’m with you on not pushing Christmas too fast –I start the day after Thanksgiving and leave it up till Twelfth Night too. (sometimes beyond because Rome wasn’t built in a day and it didn’t come down in one, either!) Those winter scene pillows from Target are wonderful and I might have to bit the bullet and buy a new pillow for this season! It’s terrific, Laura!
Hi Jeanie, I love to fully celebrate each season. The pillows are great quality. They are the Threshold brand and can be found online too.
I love all the thoughtful touches in this room! We have a little sign with Alexa information–my husband bought an Alexa device (an Echo, I think) when they were on sale for that room, and the lights can be turned off and on with it, plus the guest can ask it to play certain kinds of music, news, etc. I have the information about it on an index card, but you’ve inspired me to add the wifi password and to pretty it up, maybe framing it.
We have a desk in the guest room, too–it used to be my sewing desk in another room until I got an official sewing cabinet for that room. People often travel with their laptops these days, so I thought it would be nice to have a surface to put it on. I also have a little basket on the desk with an adult coloring book and colored pencils, a couple of small devotional books, and some Reader’s Digests.
Barbara I love the idea of a small devotional book. Perhaps with a small journal and pretty pen it would make for the perfect welcoming gift!
You amaze me in that you can get so much done, and you decide to do even more with so little time! You’re like superwoman! Your guests will feel so special in that beautiful room. I would! Everything coordinates so well, and I think you’ve thought of everything! We have twin beds in a guest room at the farmhouse. We call it our Desi and Lucy Room. But believe me, I do not go all out like you did. Oh my goodness, I just remembered, you’ve stayed in there before! You need to come back. The town is much nicer now.
Hi Cindy, your guestroom is one of my all-time favorites. You absolutely are the hostest with the mostest. Let’s plan on creating some YouTube content together in your charming town this January!
Just so charming and welcoming, Laura! I have always loved the look of two twin beds for a guest room. Your extra touches will make your guests feel right at home.
I love that you will be able to keep this styling through winter too. So cozy!
Thank you so much for joining the hop!
Amber I was so inspired by your post today. Love truly lives in all the details you shared!
What a transformation from a young man’s room! It is lovely place for guests. You’ve thought of all the nice extras for them to use. I’d love to see a small houseplant or bouquet of flowers added the day they arrive.
Mary, you read my mind. I have fresh towels, lovely soap, and a pretty bouquet all awaiting my guests! 🙂
