Making a Daybed from Two Antique Headboards

This post will share a project on Making a Daybed from Two Antique Headboards.

For almost a year we have had just one lone chair and ottoman in our tiny sunroom. Interestingly enough the small tv we put in here became a big draw in this cozy space for Sweet Guy and his friends. We needed extra seating in the room for two to three more boys but space was a challenge. Enter in the idea for a daybed.

When I attended Round Top this past spring I spied two antique French twin headboards. They were in fantastic condition, featured extra large caning and lovely carving that had been gilded. When I asked for the price it was so inexpensive I had to clarify if the dealer meant it for BOTH headboards. He did. #startthecar

I knew I had found the ingredients for a one of a kind daybed.Making a Daybed from Two Antique Headboards

Making a Daybed from Two Antique Headboards

The construction of a daybed made from two twin headboards is simple enough. You just need two wooden side rails and metal brackets to attach the rails to the headboards.

You can find brackets, in various styles, in some hardware stores. I opted for galvanized steel brackets found on Amazon.brackets

A piece of red oak was used for the side rails. Once it was lightly white washed the color and grain most closely matched the antique finish of the bed.The finished bed

I found the Dalmatian spot lumbar pillow HERE, the bolster pillow inserts came from a local designer supply store and the white covers from this Etsy shop.

The mattress cover is from Target but be forewarned I am finding that it is not wearing well.Pillows and mattress cover

I’ll be ordering the red and white striped bolster covers for Christmas. Candy cane delight!Custom Made Crosswise Striped Cotton Linen Cotton Canvas Round Bolster Covers

I tried to locate an antique flag for the wall space above the daybed like in our original inspiration photo. They were way beyond the budget.British flag

I found artwork featuring a traditional British taxi and double decker bus at Ross for $29. I wondered if Sweet Guy would like it as much as a flag. He did!

Some cushy red Ralph Lauren feather pillows from Homegoods were added for a perfectly plump head and foot rest.

The daybed has now become a coveted cozy spot in our home. cushy pillows

I need to find a small table for the room next.
