Hello sweet friends! I am joining some lovely creatives for our monthly Pinterest Challenge. It is hosted by the fabulous Cindy of County Road 407. Today I am sharing A Fresh New Mantel Design.
If you are coming from Bluesky at Home, welcome to Storybook Cottage! Didn’t you love Carol’s spring mantel ideas?
The Inspiration
This month the challenge was to create a lovely spring mantel. Our inspiration photo comes from Sharon of House on Heatherfield.
The Image Features:
- An architectural element
- A round basket
- Watering can
- Assorted greenery
- Wood bead garland
- Green books
The image above also includes some mini terra cotta pots and spring pastel eggs.
It reminded me of a design I created for a touch of summer in the dining room.
As well as a mantel featuring pastel eggs for a Happy Spring Home Tour a few years ago.
You can see the transformation of our orange brick hearth in this post.
A Fresh New Mantel Design
What I love about the Pinterest Challenge is that you can take any and all of the elements from the inspiration photo and make it your own.
Because my mantel area is smaller than the one in the inspiration photo I eliminated the tall basket and created an asymetrical design.
It Features:
- An architectural element
- A round basket
- Watering can
- Assorted greenery
- Wood bead garland
While I chose not to include a large basket on the mantel, a nice basket fills out the open storage space below that is meant for logs.
I also included some green books in the cabinet nearby.
I hope you enjoyed this month’s Pinterest Challenge. All of the elements used were pulled from my decor closet. Nothing new was purchased. Win win!
Up next is French Etheral. I hope you enjoy Barb’s pretty blooming mantel.
I’ll be back for Friday Favorites.

Wow, Laura! Your fireplace looks absolutely stunning—what an incredible transformation! I know how tough it can be to make a big decision like this, but it was definitely worth it. The result is simply breathtaking!
I love seeing the transformation of your fireplace. Wow! Truly stunning with the wood logs and all of your beautiful spring decor. And how fun to decorate the shelves nearby. You did a wonderful job on a truly gorgeous fireplace!

Your mantel is stunning. I love the whitewashed look and you’ve styled so beautifully.
Laura, I love that you’ve incorporated all of the elements within your whole fireplace area as well as along the mantel! I like the round basket you shared and your vintage watering can. Fun interpretation!!
Happy almost spring to you and your family,
Barb 🙂

I love your whitewashed fireplace Laura, and the size of it really makes a gorgeous statement! Love your thought process and how you pared back the elements while still creating a beautiful Spring mantel! Happy (almost) Spring xx
I love how your mantel is styled. And I don’t think you needed a large basket of flowers at all. The elements you included are perfect. Hope you are enjoying the spring-like weather we are having?! I’m loving it! Thanks for joining us! pinned

Laura, painting your fireplace white wa s a brilliant idea. It makes everything you put on the mantel stand out. Love all the elements that you used to add a touch of spring.
How pretty, Laura! Great idea to spread the display to the cupboards and the opening, too. Beautifully styled.
Your mantels are always to pretty and I love the file cabinet on the cupboard. You have such a warm, lovely style!
