Hello sweet friends! Welcome to the July edition of the Pinterest Challenge. This monthly event is hosted by the fabulous Cindy of County Road 407. If you are coming over from A Stroll Thru Life let me say, “Welcome to Storybook Cottage”. I was so inspired by Marty’s late summer wreath. Today’s post here on DTA features A Late Summer Boxwood Floral Crown.
This month the challenge was a Summer Boxwood wreath. Our lovely inspiration photo comes from The Creek Line House.
A Bit About Boxwood
Boxwood has been grown longer than any other plant in recorded history.
Fossil records date it to before biblical times.
It was brought to the U.S. by colonial immigrants.
Both then and now it is often used to frame gardens beds and pathways.
The boxwoods at Levens Hall in England contain the oldest currently growing topiary garden in the world. Many of the boxwood were planted there in 1665.
There are about twelve boxwood plants here at Storybook Cottage.
Boxwood’s are very slow growing.
Mr. Decor never cuts our boxwood. They are SHAPED.
So in shaping the boxwood I quickly realized that I would not have enough boxwood for a luscious wreath. My boxwood clippings at best made one small boxwood floral crown.
Boxwood Tablescape
I took my remaining boxwood clippings and created mini bouquets for a tablescape. I have been mentoring two sweet gals and wanted to set a pretty tea table for a recent sewing circle.
A pink and green color palette is always perfect for summer.
I began with a vintage Willendur tablescape gifted to me by my cousin Lynn. It pairs perfectly with Grandma Joyce’s beloved Franciscan Desert Rose china.
The first course was shrimp cocktail.
The second course was cream of asparagus soup.
We also had chicken salad and an assortment of meats and cheeses.
Dessert was strawberries, scones and whipped cream.
Make A Late Summer Boxwood Floral Crown
I always like my guests to leave Storybook Cottage with a sweet favor.
So I thought I would try my hand at making a faux boxwood floral crown. Something that my guests could wear to picnics, parties and other events.
You Will Need
- Faux boxwood
- Various faux floral
- Florist wire
- Florist tape
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Wire Clippers
First make a base by shaping a wire ring to fit your head.
Make little faux floral and boxwood bundles using florist tape.
Attach the bundles to the wire ring using more tape.
Continue to fill in the wreath until you are satisfied.
Cover the back with ribbon streamers.
The wreaths hung on the backs of the chairs as a perfect favor!
It’s such a delight having the cutest gals model this fun accessory.
Up next is Thistle Key Lane. You will love how Michelle styles her boxwood wreath 3 ways.

Your floral crowns are lovely Laura! It’s fun to see Desert Rose rising in popularity again. It takes be back to my childhood when my grandmother and her sister had full sets. BTW can you ask your Mr. Decor to teach my Mister how to “shape” our boxwoods. They need help LOL!
