Hello sweet friends, welcome to a very fun edition of Fashion Friday! Recently, Sweet Guy had expressed interest in wearing some vintage inspired apparel when he went on this year’s spring break.
The Inspiration
The inspiration came from the popular beach movies of the 1950s and 60s. Favorite classics include:
Gidget, 1959
Will it be Moondoggie or Kahoona?
Where The Boys Are, 1960
The one where George Hamilton first gets a tan.
Beach Party, 1963
Frankie and Annette forever!
We also looked at fun ads of the era for cabana sets.
The Pattern
For the first look we went with the classic camp style shirt with matching board shorts. Sweet Guy prefers the longer length shorts found in the 1950s.
The Advance 8311 pattern was found on Etsy. It went together fairly smoothly. The shorts are perfect for a beginner sewist. The collared shirt requires a bit of finesse. However, it may be a breeze for others.
This is where I insert a disclaimer that says for the 100th time that I don’t really enjoy sewing men’s fashions. There are only two people on the planet that I will do it for. 😉
Where The Boys Are Vintage Beach Attire
Of course the photo shoot required golden hour shooting for a dreamy image.
Do girls make passes at boys who wear glasses?
The cotton life ring fabric was found at Joann’s for $3 a yard.
100% Hambone
The weather was a balmy 53 degrees when we took these photos. But Sweet Guy was such a good sport!
He is always so grateful for anything that I make for him and his shenanigans make me laugh!
I’ll be sharing his other vintage inspired looks in upcoming posts.
Mr. Decor claimed “dibs” on wearing this shirt once Sweet Guy returned. So I bought some extra fabric. I’m done wearing hot and itchy spandex swim suits.
I’ve got my eye on the 1940s.
I’ll bid you adieu, as someone waits for me.
(It’s Gracie. LOL)

They’ll make passes at that one — even in the glasses! This is great, Laura! And you’re lucky to have a peachy beachy model at hand!
