Hello sweet friends! Welcome to the June edition of the Pinterest Challenge. This monthly event is hosted by the amazing Cindy of County Road 407. If you are coming over from Thistle Key Lane let me say, “Welcome to Storybook Cottage”. Wasn’t Michelle’s patriotic decor so fun? Today’s post here on DTA features A Cheery Patriotic Patio.
A Cheery Patriotic Patio
This month’s theme is a Patriotic Porch. Our inspiration photo was found on Better Homes and Gardens.
The image features:
- An outdoor setting
- Vintage furniture
- Red, white, and blue decor
- Flowers in a patriotic color palette
Start The Car
I’ve shared the teeny tiny entry of Storybook Cottage dozens of times. So for this challenge I decided to move things out back to our patio which is a bit larger.
It was time to think about what furniture to use.
I’ve been wanting an antique flip top table for a few years now. I’ve looked at antique stores, estate sales, FB marketplace, and thrift stores. Most of the tables that I have found have either been beyond my budget or in very sad shape.
Last week I needed to kill an hour between appointments and wandered into an antique mall.
One booth was having a close out sale. There was a table in the corner with tons of stuff piled on it. So I cleared it off in the chance the owner was also selling her displays.
She was.
I took the tag up to the register and inquired if the price was correct. It was. THIRTY SIX DOLLARS!!!
I sprinted back to the booth like I was Flash Gordon.
I quickly checked if the brass flip top mechanism underneath worked. It did. I grabbed that table, paid my money, placed the table in the backseat and quickly drove off.
Later that day I lovingly polished her up.
Red, White and Beautiful
I went and grabbed the metal ice cream chairs out of the shed. These chairs were rescued from a neighbors trash heap and have been seen on DTA a few times before.
This photo of darling Gracie also checks off the dog feature in the PC inspiration photo. LOL
With the furniture in place it was time to add in some patriotic decor. I first hung up the Vintage Inspired Flag Made From Scraps.
Luckily my patio pots are a cheery blue and currently filled with red/fuschia blooms.
I collect vintage tablecloths and this gem worked beautifully with the chairs.
The red transferware, Grandma’s Mary’s silverplate, and the vintage linens are all from different eras. But somehow they work well together.
A few patriotic hued blooms were nestled into a milk glass vase.
Mr. Decor and I had our breakfast out here and then in total transparency everything was taken down. It is just TOO HOT in our neck of the woods to be outside.
But it was fun while it lasted.
I hope you have enjoyed my eclectic but cheery patriotic porch. Up next is The House on Silverado. Niky’s decor is so fun!
I’ll see you on Friday.

Oh my word, that table was a steal and such a beautiful find. I love it. Perfect for a small breakfast area on the patio too. You always amaze me with how pretty you set your tables with your vintage dishes and linens. That tablecloth worked out so beautifully. Great 4th setting. Happy 4th.

I love both tablescapes, Laura!! The tea party out in the garden is lovely and the patriotic table with it’s sweet softly-colored RWB ribbon wall hanging is ethereal… Beautiful!!! Gracie is adorable out there!!! Really pretty tables but I know what you mean… It’s just too hot. 😉
I’m still out gardening in early mornings and will be getting some lines run for drip hopefully over the next few weeks. Thank heavens for oak trees and their shade! Enjoy your walks with Gracie!!
Happy summer hugs,
Barb 🙂

This is 1,000% adorable and wonderfully vintage. I love it all! When dealers shut down, it’s sad, but what deals there are to be had. Way to go!

Laura, good morning. The table is a rare find! I’m so glad you found it at such a good price. My neighbor is making a flag like you posted as I write . We are sharing a garden this summer and she is going to put it up on my shed wall right in front of the garden. Love it!
Look how your pooch tilted her head to compose a perfect photograph.!

Now that was the deal of the day! Glad you found the table and I’m still looking for a tablecloth like yours.
Totally wish I had neighbors that threw out treasures like those chairs! My goodness, I bet they want them back. Love your flag and the photo of little Gracie posing so perfectly.
We need to go shopping together. Maybe you should come down to Navasota again and we could shop there?! It would be places you haven’t been before! Thank you for joining in. pinned
