Hello dear friends! Welcome to the July edition of Lifestyle of Love hosted by Cindy of County Road 407. I am so excited about this month’s theme of incorporating salvaged decor. Recently, we stayed at a Nashville hotel that was the perfect example of using salvage. I hope you enjoy Sleeping In Church A Restored Hotel.
Sleeping In Church A Restored Hotel
If you are coming over from Our Southern Home may I say “Welcome!” Christy has such wonderful decorating ideas.
After a very hot and humid day of packing up my daughter’s home, we needed a place to stay before embarking on the 11-hour drive home back to Texas. The Fashionista chose The Russell Hotel.
The Russell Hotel is housed in a 115-year-old historic church. Are some of you gasping in horror? Don’t pound the pulpit yet! First and foremost a beautiful building was saved from the wrecking ball. Also, the mission of the hotel is quite lovely. The Russell gives away a substantial portion of each night’s stay to local homeless ministries. A one-night stay at the hotel provides 16 beds, 30 warm meals, or 100 free showers at local homeless shelters.
I am so thankful that this beautiful and unique building was spared. You can read a more detailed history about the church HERE. For me, this is the ultimate in architectural salvage.
Upon entering the building there is a coffee bar and an area for socializing. The red-curtained room is a recording studio. Because after all, this is Nashville.
This is a pretty photograph but it doesn’t do the gorgeous stained glass window justice.
Turn around and you see the lobby sitting area.
It’s a fun blend of mid-century modern style coupled with classic architecture.
So what is behind curtain #1?
It’s not a donkey, it’s a photo booth! You can see our photo HERE.
There’s also a lobby restroom that has this wild wallpaper that features The Last Supper. Kitchy but so appropriate! If you need this wallpaper in your life you can find it HERE.
The Russell has three stories. It has a mini elevator for luggage but people must take the stairs. Did you notice the guard rail?
Salvation
Most of the art that graces the walls was salvaged from the church.
On each floor, there is an area with a microwave and ice machine.
Room 2:6
Home sweet home for the night!
Pews repurposed as headboards. I know!!! I love it too!
There is also a coffee maker, a mini-fridge, and a pull-out couch in the room. My Fair Lady played on the television that night.
The only blip in our stay was that they had laid out two sets of towels and I had reserved the room for three of us. There is no staff on site. We all needed showers after a sweat-inducing day of moving and our dinner reservations were in one short hour. As the mom, and a former Girl Scout, I let the girls have the towels and I dried off with a bathrobe and the foot mat (no feet touched it)! Because that was totally a first-world problem and people are homeless. #perspective
On the third floor, you can see where the bells once hung.
I hope you have enjoyed this ultimate use of architectural salvage. Make sure you come back on Tuesday to see the gorgeous Victorian homes in the area!
Up next is the very creative Paula from Sweet Pea.

Leave it to you and your clever thinking to come up with an alternative towel. Thanks for sharing!

What a great choice for your overnight! It’s stunning and I love the fact that they donate so much to the community. I love the look of it — might be hard to live in 24/7 but oh, for a night or two, how glorious. Those windows are to die for and I love your pink room! Very My Fair Lady-worthy! And yes, the headboards are a brilliant idea!

I’m so happy to see this! We lived in Nashville when the tornado came through that part of town and nearly destroyed this beautiful old church and I’m glad to know much of it was salvaged. Love those amazing stained glass windows and the fun, whimsical decor they’ve added. I hope you enjoyed your stay there!
