Antique Bavarian China

Hello dear friends! Welcome to the March edition of Lifestyle of Love hosted by Cindy of County Road 407. I am so excited about this month’s theme of DISHWARE. Now that is speaking my love language! I have collected antique red transferware for over 20 years. I also have a lovely set of the Friendly Village. You’ll never pry the abundance of white stoneware, used every day, from my hands. In addition to these gems, I have a collection that is truly heartfelt. My Antique Bavarian China.

If you are coming over from Christy’s at Our Southern Home, “Welcome!” Wasn’t her tablescape just amazing!?

Antique Bavarian China

My great-grandmother, Emma Becker, immigrated to America from Germany when she was just 16 years old. She brought with her a love of Bavarian china. Beautiful Bavaria is a region in Germany. It is located near Austria and Switzerland. For many centuries, Bavaria has produced fine translucent porcelain china that often features delicate florals in gorgeous pastel colors. This makes it PERFECT for spring-themed vignettes!

Identification Stamps

Most Bavarian china has an identification stamp on the bottom of each piece. There are various companies such as Johann Haviland, Hutschenreuther, and Winterling.  The oldest, Royal Bayreuth Company, has been producing china since 1794. I love to pair it with my Springtime/Easter Putz Cottages.

It works beautifully for special occasions too. The teacup towers created for the Royal Wedding Breakfast and High Tea Tablescape were a favorite.

But it can also work during the winter months too. Here is a pink palette I created for a Storybook Cottage Christmas Kitchen.

What A Deal

My double-handled broth bowls were found at a garage sale for $2. They were perfect for a Napoleon & Josephine Valentine Tablescape.

A few years ago I displayed many of my pieces together in the green hutch for the Spring Home Tour.

My most prized piece is the cookie/biscuit jar that my great-grandfather gave to his bride, Emma, on their first wedding anniversary. It is the centerpiece shown on the sideboard in the post A Town Party Happy 150th Birthday Laura Ingalls Wilder.

I hope you have enjoyed my treasured collection of Antique Bavarian China.

Up next is Coco from The Crowned Goat. You will adore her gorgeous and affordable solution to jadeite.

This is beautiful, Laura. I’m a dish junkie myself with way too many sets of china. I”ve been reviewing some of the antique china I have — hopefully to do a post on soon. This is so very elegant!

$2.00?! !! We would have had a good old fashioned throwdown for those. Or at least a thumb war! All of your collections are gorgeous. Maybe one day you’ll tire of it and Alyssa won’t want them either and I will beg and wear you down for at least a few pieces? A girl can dream. Thank you for joining in and sharing your “wares”. LOL, I always laugh when I say “wares” for some reason. Not sure why I think of undergarments, but I do. TMI?

Now I know a little about the few pieces that I have. I’ll be on the lookout at fleas and vintage markets as soon as I can get back out there to shop. Hope you have a great weekend!

What a treasure you have in your grandmother’s china! I love the colorful way in which have displayed it. It’s just too pretty to have behind closed doors.

My maternal Grandma trained me to look for Bavaria on the bottom of china pieces. I learned so much about vintage and making the most of whatever you have from her. This post brought back good memories:) Love your beautiful collection. I love the pieces with that pretty lustre.
