Lace Valentine Hearts Made From Scraps

Hello sweet friends! Welcome to another edition of A Tasha Tudor Inspired Holiday. Let’s create some Lace Valentine Hearts Made From Scraps.

Tasha Tudor painted the most enchanting Valentine greetings.

Tasha Tudor Valentine

She famously used scraps of fabric and lace to create lovely Valentines, stuffed animals, and more.

I was inspired to create my own heartfelt gifts ala Tasha.

You Will Need:

  • Scrap fabric, lace, and buttons
  • Stuffing ~ you can use small bits of scrap fabric, pillow stuffing, bits of wool, or cotton balls.
  • Sewing machine or fabric glue
  • Scissors, pins, needles, and thread.

You can either cut a heart shape freehand or use this heart template pattern.

First Step

Cut out two hearts from your scrap fabric.

Step 2

Embellish the two heart pieces.

I layered various lace on the front of one heart and made a wee pocket on the other.

Attach the embellishments with a sewing machine (I used a zig-zag stitch.)

You can also hand stitch or use fabric glue to attach the pieces.

Step 3

Place the two right sides together. Pin in place.

Leave a small 2-inch opening. I mark this with a green pin and a red pin so I know where to start stitching and where to stop.

Join the two fabrics together using a small seam allowance using your sewing machine or hand stitching.

Step 4

Turn the heart inside out through the small opening.

Fill the heart with stuffing.

Close the opening with a needle and thread or glue.

Last Step

Your pillow is finished.

You can add additional bits of lace, ribbon, and buttons to further embellish the heart.

Attach with a needle and thread or glue.

The pillows can be made in various sizes.

You can tuck love letters or chocolates into the pockets.

The pillows can also be used as pincushions or sachets if you fill the pockets with potpourri or a scented cotton ball.

This week’s video shows just how easy the pillows are to make. Of course, I couldn’t resist dressing like Tasha!

Oh, I really love these little beauties, Laura. I’ve been wanting to make some of these for years and things have just been too crazy even for little projects. Thanks for giving me some motivation and encouragement to create. These are so very pretty and feminine. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!
