Chapter 2 Grown Up
In Chapter 2 Laura writes a passage that is heartbreakingly beautiful. She recalls the passing of her beloved bulldog Jack. The event had occurred sixty years prior to when she began writing the book. But even years later, you can feel her pain and longing. This is just one of the many lovely things about the Little House books. Laura had a special way of connecting with her readers.
In the video, I share some recently acquired treasures to include a vintage sewing box and a Mastercraft clock.
Chapter 23 On The Pilgrim Way
Reverend Alden stops by on his way out west. He is joined by Revered Stuart. A celebratory breakfast is enjoyed and Ma passes on some cooking tips.
I talk about the difference between salt pork and bacon and recreate the hearty breakfast.
We enjoyed hash brown potatoes, biscuits and gravy, bacon, and plenty of fragrant steaming tea.

I have the full set of Little House Books and Books on Laura. They are very worn as I tend to miss Laura if I don’t revisit every now and then. I find her books comforting and I especially love the detail of pioneer cooking. Enjoying your blog and IG posts………..

I love the Christmas scene in By the Shores of Silver Lake when the Boasts arrive unexpectedly. And the description of the surveyor’s house. Losing Jack was such a tender scene in the book. My 8 year old granddaughter has borrowed my books, and is currently reading By the Shores of Silver Lake. Such wonderful stories.
