Hello sweet friends and Happy Monday! I recently organized an outdoor outing for the D/FW Costumers Guild. In Fort Worth, there is an amazing living history museum that I have shared before. It is the Log Cabin Village. I always like to create a party favor for those that attend and this gathering was no exception. Here are the Historical Halloween Goodie Bags.
Historical Halloween Goodie Bags
I am currently knee-deep in research on how the Victorians celebrated holidays with Fancy Dress Balls. It is assisting me with my annual costume creation. I introduced the theme HERE.
I wanted the Goodie Bag to encompass the feeling of a historical fancy dress ball and found this image on Pinterest.
Canva was used to overlay the print that you see in the first image.
Creating The Bags
This project took less than 10 minutes to make. You will need:
- Brown paper bags
- Assorted ribbon and buttons
- Candy
- Scissors
- Tags
The tags were printed out on my computer and cut apart. The bags were bought on clearance at Joann but can be found in any craft and hobby store. I then gathered small bits of scrap ribbon and single vintage buttons.
The bags were filled with candy and closed. Then I simply topped each bag with the tag and accented it with a ribbon and a button. I used hot glue but tape or white glue could work too.
Sadly, I did not attend the event as I needed to travel to Florida to care for Grandma Joyce. But a grand time was had by all!
Special thanks to Beth for the image!
Fear not, the bags will not go to waste! I am redoing the tags for the special neighborhood children who greet Gracie and me each day on our walk. (For safety purposes they will be delivered via mask and gloves to the parents.) I will probably share those on Instagram.
Are you creating any special treats?

This is a darling idea, Laura. I’m not handing out door candy this year but we have a few kids on our block who always come. So I think I’ll be making little bags for them and deliver to their door — I might include some home made cookies, since I know them and I told Rick to find me “good” Halloween candy at the store! We’ll see how he does!

Laura, I can’t imagine anyone’s grandmother who wouldn’t be happy to have you as a granddaughter. I like that you are going to give all the creative work you did to the children that you meet walking Gracie. Surprises like that can make a wonderful childhood memory. I often think about the adults that were kind to me when I was a child. There was a man who used to hook up his real painted gypsy wagon to a horse and pick up all the neighborhood children, Mrs. Balenger who always invited us in for chocolate chip cookies and Mr. and Mrs. Katsura who arranged for us to come into their Japanese style home to paint pictures of their Japanese garden. All lovely people who went out of their way to be make us feel special.
