Lessons With Laura On The Banks Of Plum Creek

In this post, we will feature three excerpt readings from On the Banks of Plum Creek along with some accompanying activities.

Fashion Chapter 20: An 1870’s work dress.

Craft Chapter 17: A paper star garland.

Chapter 22: A recipe for old fashioned lemonade.

This post works in conjunction with my YouTube channel.

THE FULL-LENGTH VIDEO CAN BE VIEWED BY CLICKING HERE.

It includes this recipe segment.

Chapter 20 An 1870’s Work Dress

Mary and Laura’s dresses were too short. I must have felt sorry for them because while working on a new 1870’s work dress I made the skirt too short. But the solution turned out to be rather pretty.  You can see the solution in the video.

Chapter 17  A Paper Star Garland

When moving into their new home Ma taught Mary and Laura how to make decorative shelf edging. Two easy craft projects are shared in the video.

I adore the lacy paper shelf edging I made for the glass-fronted kitchen cabinet.

For the star paper garland you will need:

  • Brown paper
  • Scissors
  • A pencil or sharpie
  • Optional: a ruler

Chapter 22 A Recipe For Old Fashioned Lemonade

Making your own lemonade is fast and delicious! I share an easy recipe and step by step instructions in this weeks video.

A few years ago our family celebrated Laura Ingalls Wilder’s 150th birthday with a Town Party. It included lemonade of course!
