Every day there are so many wonderful stories of lovely people doing great things. We will never be able to properly thank those who have sacrificed so much during this difficult time. Medical staff, essential workers, teachers and so many more. But I want you to know that if you just got out of bed You Are My Hero.
You Are My Hero
If you have completed a masterpiece or are elbows deep in finger paint You Are My Hero.
If you have organized your entire home or managed to clean out just one small closet You Are My Hero.
Perhaps you are growing prize-winning roses. Or you have mastered carpentry and made 18 beautiful raised beds and created a bountiful victory garden. But even if you just managed to keep a house plant alive for more than a week You Are My Hero.
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
If you have become a multi-course gourmet chef or have mastered being a short order scrambled egg cook You Are My Hero.
If you managed to read War and Peace or have just skimmed through Pat The Bunny for the millionth time You Are My Hero.
You Are The Champion
To all those training for a marathon, I am cheering you on. To those taking laps for a charity, you inspire me! For the daily walk to the mailbox warriors, You Too Are My Hero.
I admire those who made it a mission to view every single Best Picture that ever won an Oscar. I appreciate the fabulous hosts of viewing parties on Kast featuring the cinematic works of Jane Austen or every Merchant Ivory film ever made. But even if you are simply viewing classic Disney movies or binge-watching Netflix You Are My Hero!
Woweee to those who do full face makeup every and hair every day. But if you just simply button your pants once this week You Are My Hero.
It is fantastic if you set a beautiful table every day. But if you match your paper plates to your pajamas You Are My Hero.
A True Lionheart
What wonders are those sweet souls penning long heartfelt letters to lonely strangers. But even if you are sending a simple text to check in on someone You Are My Hero.
Perhaps you have taught yourself to knit, crochet, or embroider. Or you have purchased, folded, glued, bedazzled or sewn 1, 15, or 1000 masks You Are All My Heroes.
Best In Show
Perhaps you have trained your five dogs to dance a four-minute Broadway routine. You are awesome! But even if you take a photo every day of your old cat in the same exact spot on the couch You Are My Hero.
To any and all of you who did just one of the above, you are a victor!
To all the people who share funny memes, repost a hilarious video, or share a yummy looking recipe I want to thank you.
Thank you!
Because it is far easier to be routinely negative or consistently pessimistic.
Although please remember that those two things are different than being sad.
It’s ok to be sad. There’s been so much lost. So many things canceled.
But if you can still:
- Choose to reflect on the good.
- Accentuate the positive.
- Have hope.
- Believe in a better tomorrow.
YOU ARE MY HERO!
My Personal Hero
Right now my personal hero is an eighteen-year-old high school senior.
Every 12th-grade end of year incentive and milestone is now gone.
There will be no official celebration for twelve years of hard work.
He has every reason to be angry.
To complain.
Or simply give up.
But he keeps going.
He’s up early every morning putting in three to four hours to prepare for his three upcoming Advanced Placement exams.
He wants to end this academic year strong even if it is simply to earn a pass or fail grade.
He is my HERO.
A true member of the Top Gunn club.
Who is your everyday hero right now?
Laura

Thank you so much for your encouraging post. It’s nice to be a hero in someone’s eyes. So sorry for your son that he will miss so much. This is a hard time, just keep the uplifting posts. They are a breath of fresh air.

You and your Son and Family are lovely. You all seem to have that too rare gene for that sense of wonder and gratitude that I hope all of us further develop and grow and nurture in ourselves and in each other. Maybe that’s what all of this is really about…
