Our know for many of us the days are busier than ever. I myself am spending more time in the kitchen and in the garden. I spent two hours yesterday configuring a school schedule to integrate all the prep work Sweet Guy needs to do to be ready to take three AP exams in three weeks. Even still I don’t feel like I am running a mile a minute. It’s more like Sunday Smiles A Mile An Hour.
A Heart Racing Wreath
This sweet wreath made my heart race with love.
Winning Walls
This has never happened before. I love every single wall treatment in this charming home.
It was almost impossible to pick a photo. The bathroom and bedroom are SO good.

Sunday Smiles A Mile An Hour
If you need some motivation to get off the couch and accomplish even one little thing then Beau Miles will surely inspire you. He ran an entire marathon and so much more in the course of a single day. Although the video is 17 minutes long you will want to stay to see if he crosses his own personal finish line. Make sure you read his completed project list. The last one will make you smile.
The Perfect Shade of White
You may remember at the start of #stay at home Mr. Decor had to completely repair a wall in our bathroom that collapsed from a hidden leak. It was tricky but he successfully tackled the plumbing, new drywall installation, and texturizing.
I guess the world decided against him resting on his laurels. The master bath shower decided to spring a leak next. It was fairly easy to repair the leak. But patching the tile is an entirely different story. The 3 and 1/2 inch square white tiles have been IMPOSSIBLE to match in online searches. This is understandable since they are close to 40 years old. We also can’t go out and rummage around salvage stores. They’re closed.
I have searched Pinterest for a gazillion solutions. None have been doable.
Experts via phone face time have all said: “If you want it to look good, and not look like a patch job, the easiest thing to do would be to replace ALL of the tiles.”
Yeah, the designer in me would like it to look good. But really, that’s the easiest thing?
So here the shower sits. I am SO thankful we have a second bathroom.
Perhaps the answer will reveal itself with patience. So instead I will lace up my running shoes and focus on these last three weeks of my son’s childhood. I know they will race by. The terrain is getting pretty rocky. His graduation announcements arrived last week. I mean, do we still mail them out?
Feel free to answer any and all of my puzzling questions.
They could bring forth a Sunday Smile.

Yes, mail out the graduation announcements– it’s a big life celebration. Perhaps those that live close by can do a car parade to help him celebrate. Those that live far away can Zoom or send email messages of congratulations or words of advice for the next phase of life. Have him make a wish list for his new living space on Amazon and include that link inside the graduation announcements– even if his dorm room will be at home. Life is changing for both of you so Celebrate it as best you can. Good Luck getting through the AP exams. 3 is a lot to handle.. Congratulations to you and your husband for getting another one through high school– you two should celebrate as well.

By all means, celebrate his graduation any way you can. I is a huge milestone that he needs to enjoy. I am so sad that all the normal festivities have been canceled. That really cheats all the graduates.

Yes, send out the graduation announcements. You’ll be doing a good deed in two ways – people in isolation will be glad to get mail and will be glad to know about his achievement. And, if people reply, save the cards and letters for him so that at least he will have some souvenirs of this milestone 50 years down the road.

Hi Laura, For the tile I would do a totally different tile like it was planned to be different. You could do a black & white design tile which would compliment the white tiles. Or some sort of image like is done sometimes at the wall behind a range to set it off. It wouldn’t have to be anything fancy; it could be a tile with a simple design for that square area behind the faucet.
Yes, definitely send out the graduation announcements. Even though there is no ceremony, your son completed his work and will receive a diploma.

Put in decorative tile and make another bit to match elsewhere to make it look deliberate.

I can relate to water problems and I feel the pain of you and Mr. Decor. In my case it’s the dishwasher — which seems to fill up when it hasn’t been used since January! Every now and then I bail. When all this eases up, maybe I’ll call the plumber. Or get a new dishwasher… I’m not sure which it is! The weekend’s almost oer so have a wonderful new week!

I think you could center a pretty tile design around the handle and then maybe incorporate some of the new tile in a border around the top.
I adore my husband but he sure isn’t as handy as yours!

Laura, check your e-mail for a photo of some tile I could send…..

Everything you are doing for your son is right if it feels right
to you. I pray our children can look back upon these times and say, “I was a part of this. I have the memories and know the heartbreak, but we were strong.”
Sending love,
Jane

BTW I agree with Joan about insetting decorative tile. The 1/2 inch or inch square tiles that come on mesh backing sheets might look grand. Also perhaps the 12×18 ” large scale marble tiles – take off the tiles above and below and make it a floor to ceiling feature!
