Welcome to the November Pinterest Challenge A Hot Cocoa Cabinet. This monthly event is hosted by Cindy of County Road 407. If you are visiting from StoneGable may I say “Welcome to Storybook Cottage!” Yvonne and I have been friends for years. I have so enjoyed seeing the recent posts of her new gorgeous home. She truly is talented.
This month’s challenge was inspired by a hot chocolate bar created by Pen + Paper Flowers.
The arrangement features:
- Hot cocoa
- Cups
- Toppings
- Spoon
A Hot Cocoa Cabinet
For me, the challenge this month was creating something new. For instance, I discovered that I have actually written like eight cocoa related posts over the years. The first set up was back in 2008… the dark ages. Pinterest wasn’t even a thing. So to keep my cocoa fresh (smile) necessity is the mother of invention.
However, since this post is scheduled before Thanksgiving and I don’t decorate for Christmas until after turkey day I needed to do something that was somewhat hidden. Enter in our glass-fronted kitchen cabinet.
Indeed it wasn’t until the fairy lights were turned on one recent evening that the boys of Storybook Cottage even noticed a change had been made to the cabinet from having a fall collection to sporting a new Christmas cocoa theme.
My Christmas kitchen will be shades of pink and turquoise this year so I gathered together several cups and other elements in that color palette.
I never actually use my cake plates for cakes. How about you?
There are two types of cocoa and a collection of pretty scoops and spoons.
Do you want your own pink cocoa? I can help you out!
Pink Peppermint Cocoa
In addition, if you’re not a fan of peppermint, here is a recipe for yummy white chocolate.
Magically Delicious Happy Hot Cocoa
My favorite cocoa topping is marshmallows. I usually make my own but that happens the first week of December.
I love to hang the mini candy cane off the side of my mug.
Ginormous Peppermint Marshmallows
I hope you have enjoyed my most recent take on cocoa.

Up next on the tour is my dear friend Marty of A Stroll Thru Life. Did you know we were once Phoenix neighbors? I sure do miss our in real life get-togethers. Miss Marty’s home is as lovely and welcoming as she shares.

Hi Laura,
I love that your cocoa bar is tucked into a cabinet! What a great idea! It saves so much counter real estate.
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I have one son who might have trouble with his flight to Denver.
It’s probably the first time i have wished for the snow to stop! xo laura in Colorado!

Laura, the cabinet is a great idea. And, I love the idea of pink and turquoise for Christmas. We don’t decorate for Christmas until the day after. Thanksgiving either. All your cups are beautiful . I love the idea of pink hot chocolate.

I rarely use my cake plates for cake! But I use them for so much more!
Laura, your beautiful ornament arrived today. And you know how sometimes things happen on the day you really need it? Well, that was today. Just perfect. Thank you so much for that — and for so much more. What a lovely gesture and I’m very touched.
Happiest of Thanksgivings to you. I know I am most grateful for your friendship.

Wow, you have done a lot of hot cocoa posts, Laura, and they all look wonderful! I love how feminine your station looks with the pink touches. I’m with you…decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving is tough. Happy to be hopping with you!

Wow! Your hot chocolate cabinet is beautiful!!! (and no, never expect men to notice these things!) lol
I have a large cabinet for hot chocolate, tea, coffee but certainly nothing as pretty as that one. And definitely not lights! It would be too scary.
But my kitchen is known as the hot chocolate place. I make it flavoured and plain and with whipped cream (No one likes the marshmallows. I have to agree. They just get slimy. The mugs are getting old and worn but they have so many memories and stories so they stay.
I even have a recipe for home made hot chocolate.
Home-made Hot Chocolate
I cup unsweetened good cocoa (Believe me, don’t cheap out and buy the cheap stuff)
2 cups icing sugar
2 1/2 cups plain no-name brand coffee whitener or bulk is fine. Pick the one with the least ingredients. If you have to, you can substitute skim milk powder but you won’t like it as much.
1/2 to 1 tsp salt (I don’t add very much)
2 small packages of instant pudding. I prefer I package of chocolate and one of vanilla but chose your flavours to suit. Just be sure to use instant!!!
Sift and mix together. It really needs to be sifted to be evenly mixed. Store in an air tight container.
Use as regular hot chocolate mix. Add about 2 heaping teaspoons with boiling water and stir. Add milk or cream to taste. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of spices or, well, sprinkles of course, of choice.
I have a lot of allergies to food preservatives and artificial sweeteners. This one has very few, if any depending on what brands of ingredients you buy.
Happy Thanksgiving!!! {{{Hugs}}}

I remember right where this special glass cabinet is, Laura! I was just showing Amy your home (the few pics I took last Christmas at your tea luncheon) and telling her about your kitchen. She is getting excited to be thinking about hopefully buying her first home in a year or two. Anyway, I love how you’ve incorporated teacups for hot cocoa!!! Delicious… :)’ Pink cocoa sounds lovely!
Happy Thanksgiving to y’all,
Barb <3
