School started this past Wednesday. Sweet Guy is now a junior in high school. When I started this blog he was in first grade. A week from today we will be attending his Eagle Scout ceremony. On Monday I will turn 50. It seems like a perfect time for Saturday Smiles Summer Reflections.
Saturday Smiles Summer Reflections
We will soon have several family members arriving from out of town. After two months of drought, our garden looked like a wasteland. I spent two full days filling up our bin with dead shrubs, flowers, and plants. It looks a bit barren right now. I like the idea of various shades of green garden beds.
What To Watch
After months of waiting for The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society to arrive on Netflix, I was not disappointed. The historic storyline, 40’s era costuming and various charming interior sets all captured my fancy.
A Lovely Lakeside Retreat
We only made it out to the lake once this summer. But I like to dream of a lakeside cottage such as this in my future.
Transition To Fall
This gorgeous home in the Garden District of New Orleans seems to have the perfect vignettes for a slow transition from summer to fall decor.
I’ll be joining other ladies with more transitional fall ideas on Tuesday.
See you on Monday!

I have not read Guernsey yet, but I recently got the audiobook – it’s next in my queue. I wanted to read/listen to it before seeing the movie. I am looking forward to both!
An early happy birthday to you!

Happy 50th Birthday! Have fun celebrating! 🙂
Kids are still on summer vacation here until the Tuesday after Labour Day. They are already starting to either pack as much as possible into the last couple weeks of freedom or getting excited about new school supplies and clothes and getting back into class. Summer seems to stretch out forever with possibilities the end of June…
What a sweet cottage picture. I use to dream of a getaway when we were younger and then I realized it meant two houses to clean. Soon got over that one! Same with travel trailers and camping. Trying to take a break not add to the workload. lol
Hope your garden recovers before your guests arrive. If not, well, don’t dwell on it. I am sure they are coming to visit with you and your family. not do home and yard inspections. The heat waves around the world this summer are making it tough for gardeners everywhere. Raining hard here today. Our first real rain in weeks and we certainly needed it. Soothing to listen to it falling and curl up with a good movie and some reading material.
Have a great weekend…and I think you deserve to start the celebrations a little early. Enjoy yourself! 🙂

We loved the movie, Guernsey Potato Peel Pie Literary Society! We are now listening to the book as we are in the car which is excellent and so different from the movie. I highly recommend it as it is totally different so you can love both the movie and the book.
We are visiting our grands now in San Antonio . I miss all the good things about Dallas and had hoped to see all you girls again but we are having fun exploring a new city and helping them get settled. They found a great house.
Have a great birthday. Enjoy! I remember my 40th but can’t remember 50. Wish I had written it down.
We celebrate our 47th anniversary, Tuesday.

How fast your guy has grown! All the best to him in his 11th year of school.
Love the photos…lake life, English life…well, it isn’t always as perfect as it looks or you want it to be. No worries, beauty abounds everywhere if you can slap at the mosquitoes and survive the heat!!!

Laura,
Looking forward to watching The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. My book club read it a couple of years ago, and we all loved it. Those green gardens are appealing, aren’t they? I am thinking of something like that for the newly redone terraces/retaining wall area in my backyard.

I’m with you on the lakeside cottage. I drool every time I see the cottage of the owner of Nell Hill’s shop.
