This past week I have been spending a good amount of time in bed due to a back injury. Thankfully I am on the road to recovery. The time has given me the chance to really look at my bedroom. My bedroom is currently a white box. The walls are white. The bedding is white. The only contrast is the dark wood furniture. I need a Sunny and Bright Bedroom.
I wanted to add in some color and interest for the summer.
So I turned to Pinterest.
Sunny and Bright Bedroom
I typed in “Beautiful Bedroom”.
Oh, there truly were so many gorgeous spaces that caught my eye.
I found myself being drawn to a soft layered look.
But with a touch of color.
I love this room. The soft pastels with a punch of teal are lovely. I have thought about wallpapering the ceiling of my attic office in this Hygge & West “Daydream” print. It’s a popular choice.
Over and over I am always drawn to blue.
Toile and French boutis quilts are favorites too.
But this pink was so fun! I think perhaps it might be the stripes that caught my eye.
It’s a fun change versus a traditional pairing of gingham or buffalo check.
This overall look really caught my eye. The soft stripes and florals paired with blue and plenty of white checked off all my boxes.
Make A Doily Pillow Sham
Until I can locate similar elements for the room I decided to make due do what I had.
I had a pair of plain white euro shams in need of an update.
In my lace stash, I found two large star-shaped doilies. They were the same design just two different colors.
The Fashionista had a kantha quilt she wasn’t using. I unified the shams and doilies by dying them “Evening Blue”. The color picked up the blues in the quilt. I simply stitched the doily onto the sham.
The blue euro shams and kantha quilt were paired with two happy pink striped shams and a bright green throw pillow.
It’s a fun, temporary look for the summer while I search for true favorites.
Have a beautiful weekend!

Laura, sending good thoughts for the quick healing of your back, O mistress of the dye pots! I've got a slipcover that I should be dying during this warm dry spell, but…I love your 'new' shams!

Hey Laura! So sorry that you've hurt your back. Praying that you'll heal quickly and completely! I love all your beautiful inspiration pictures and if I was stuck in bed, I know I'd be doing the exact same thing.

What beautiful rooms you found! I think Pinterest is reading your mind! I love what you did, I think the art of “making do” is somewhat lost in the current times. I love the idea of dying, I would have NEVER thought of that. Thank you for participating in our event, hurt back and all. You get a trophy for endurance. Hugs!

Laura,
Your inspiration is fabulous and dreamy. I would thoroughly enjoy resting in anyone of these rooms.
You have such a natural gift and keen eye for detail and melding textiles.
I am smitten with these pillows!
Continue to rest and heal.

Hope you are recovering quickly and will be bouncing back to being able to do what you want to again soon. Back pain is wicked!
Love the new mix of pretty colours for the shams and coverlet. It has fresh and summer written all over it. the dyed doilies are a very good idea. I should dig out some of my stash and see what I can pair them up with.
I have a bland ivory/beige room for my guests but I like it since I can make it cooler in summer with blues and lilacs, warmer in winter with burgundy and rose or mix anything and everything in it just for fun. Since some of our guest return quite often, I like to make it a little different and fun for them to see what is changed when they go to settle in. 🙂
Thanks for your lovely post and take care of yourself! Gentle {{{hugs}}}

Also, being laid up or ceiling watching (that's what I call it), can bring on the best ideas.
Beautiful!

Ahhhhgh! It must be the year for hurting backs? I hurt mine earlier in the Spring – it really threw a monkey wrench into my DIY and gardening projects. I do hope you feel better soon. Nothing worse than having to lay around!
I love your temporary bedding. It looks so pretty (I love the pink stripes too!) but your inspiration picture is gorgeous and will make for a very soothing bedroom. Take care and heal quickly!

I love your inspiration pictures. My bedroom is currently a under-renovation mess and each of your picture caught me dreaming of maybes and what-ifs. I do hope your back is now giving you some rest. Maybe you could try soaking in a bath with some Epsom salt?
