Season’s Greeting dear friends! I am so excited to be joining my good friend Marty on her Christmas Home Tours today. She truly has a gathered a fabulous collection of bloggers and the tours are going on all week. If you are coming over from Pam’s merry house at Simple Details may I say “Welcome to Storybook Cottage Storybook Cottage Holiday Home Tour Part II.”
Storybook Cottage Holiday Home Tour Part II
We’ll start the tour in the entry. It sets the tone and color palette for the living and dining areas.
The Tree
This year our formal tree was moved into the front living room. It was placed next to the French hutch filled with my favorite “Bethlehem Christmas” dishes.
Every year, during the after Christmas sales, I buy one roll of white, silver and gold paper. Then it is just simply a matter of changing the ribbon to match the next year’s color palette.
I reuse toppers such as glittered snowflakes and my mom Nadine’s vintage rhinestone earrings. Pretty images are printed out on the computer to use as tags.
This year’s color palette and the theme was inspired by the regal peacock.
I’m not one to spend big money on tree toppers. I just created a bow and clipped a large peacock in front of it.
The banister was decorated with a beaded garland from At Home held in place by a double-faced satin wired ribbon.
The tree was draped in teal satin ribbon, green mesh, and peacock feathers. Ornaments from Christmases past were nestled into the glittery branches.
My dear friend Joni, of Cote De Texas, recently had a giveaway and I was the winning recipient of these ethereal doves from Fig and Dove.
The trusty Ikea couch slipcover was switched to a darker neutral shade and a bit of color was added with a few new throw pillows.
The green velvet cover is a steal from Cost Plus World Market. Just take out the thin poly-fil insert and add a feather pillow for a lush look.
The peacock pillow covers were an eBay find. Just $6.99 for the set!
I enjoy creating simple vignettes with vintage ornaments and silver pieces found at estate sales.
The Mantel
A peek at the holiday beverage station also allows a glimpse at this year’s mantel.
I used a lit garage sale garland I have had for years and the same ribbon used on the tree was woven into it. A few vintage crystal candlesticks were nestled in and topped with turquoise candles came from Ikea.
Sparkly turquoise filler, feathers, gold ornaments and a glittery peacock complete the look.
The Dining Area
As the living room is part of an open concept with the formal dining space the theme was continued in this area as well.
The table décor was kept very simple. Clippings from the yard and grocery store mums and roses top a silver platter from Goodwill.
The buffet is ready for the upcoming cookie exchange party. The doors of Storybook Cottage will be opened to several lovely Texas bloggers this next Tuesday.
You can find the easy recipe for Ginormous Peppermint Marshmallows HERE.
They taste SO good in a cup of hot cocoa.
Having lived in Germany for three years Pfeffernüsse cookies are a family favorite.
The Kitchen
Let’s head into the kitchen where all the holiday deliciousness gets made.
This year’s theme is “Candyland”.
In the bay window, next to the kitchen table, is a wee tree all decked out.
Longtime readers probably recognize the topper and vintage Christmas corsages I created in years past. I truly just try to reuse what I already have on hand, just in different ways.
Would you like a quick drink before we begin baking?
Make sure you pick out an apron to wear. They were once worn by some of the best bakers in my family.
Turning on the oven you might notice that even the area next to the stove gets decked out.
Let’s begin!
The estate sale marble pastry board is jazzed up with a few baking utensils from Anthro. They are an early Christmas gift from the Fashionista who works for the company. She says I have to leave them to her. The paper décor came from Home Goods.
A hodgepodge of yummy delights.
Even clean up is enjoyable…
…as you look at four smiling Santa faces on the kitchen window sill.
I hope you have enjoyed Part II of the Storybook Cottage holiday tour.

Incredible job Laura! I so want to be at the party, I'm sure it will be the event of the season for all the TX bloggers.
HB to Mr D – as a Christmas baby myself, it means a lot to us when someone makes a fuss instead of saying we'll celebrate at the Christmas party/later….a good woman is worth more than Rubies, sure but a good husband is worth more than Facebook stock!
