Oh, my stars and garters there is just one week left of the One Room Challenge! This week truly was a challenge. ORC Week 5 The Old Palm Beach Bathroom Gets A Wall Treatment and then Another One.
ORC Week 5 The Old Palm Beach Bathroom Gets A Wall Treatment and then Another One
Now you may remember in the original post that I shared several inspiration photos for the Palm Beach Bathroom. They all had one thing in common: palm/banana leaf wallpaper.
Peel and Stick
So here’s the thing. The walls of Storybook cottage are all quite heavily textured. In order for traditional wallpaper to be installed the walls have to be smooth. So we would first have to skim coat the walls. Neither the Mr. or myself have ever done this and given our time constraints of the challenge we decided to consult an expert. The result was IT AINT CHEAP! Moving on… I had read that the new removable wallpaper, which is a peel and stick, would adhere to any surface. So I ordered a sample of “Green Leaf” by Chasing Paper. It was absolutely fabulous and indeed had no problem adhering to the textured walls. Two thumbs up.
Each panel is 2 feet by 4 feet and costs $38 a panel. With three fairly large walls to cover it quickly blew our $500 budget to pieces.
So what to do?
We also really liked this look:
When Stencils Don’t Work
Perhaps I could paint a tropical palm tree design on the walls? So I ordered this stencil and set to work.
While I have mad stenciling skills it just didn’t seem to work in the small space. It overwhelmed the room. Perhaps it was also the lack of natural light.
Sigh. There’s nothing like a REALLY BIG IDEA falling completely flat…a week before the scheduled reveal.
So, I’ll be repainting the room “Pearl Moon” white, installing a faucet, new cabinet knobs, stylizing the space and trying to capture the tiny area on film all this next week.
My houseguests just boarded their plane late last night so I’d better get crackin’!

I know it will be fabulous and I think you can pull off the chic glam look you are wanting with accessories.
You're too funny! Sorry for the glitches but I know you'll make it all work fabulously! xoKathleen
It'll be great. Looking forward to the big reveal!
Great back up plan! I sourced that same plan print for a client and the cost did go up fast! We ended up only doing one wall but I love your stencil!
Well, the wall treatment might not have gone along as planned, BUT I love those taps! Who cares what is on the wall with those pretties to look at? 🙂
Enjoy your company! Decorating deadlines will come and go but awesome company and the memories of their visit are a one time thing.
I'm sorry you have some more paint to do, but then you'll be glad with the result!
It looks great already! Can't wait to see the final room!!!
