At about 5.30 p.m. (12:30 ET), Queen Elizabeth who is Britain’s oldest ever monarch at age 89, surpassed the record set by her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, and became Britain’s longest reigning monarch. Longest Reigning Monarch in Britain’s History She’s Done It Let’s Celebrate!
Longest Reigning Monarch in Britain’s History She’s Done It Let’s Celebrate
The Queen is spending the day at Balmoral in Scotland as she wanted no fanfare.
She will be having a simple dinner with members of her family to quietly mark the occasion.
There was a new official portrait made to mark the event showing what she does best. Attending to important matters.
The most recent picture of the Queen was taken over the weekend when she attended the Braemar Games in Scotland.
We here at the Gunn house were thrilled and celebrated with a teatime feast fit for…well, a Queen.
Two weeks ago I had wandered into a thrift shop and found three coronation scarves that came home with me. I decided to incorporate one into a tablescape.
After a good soaking one scarf became a tablecloth overlay.
This primary colored scarf featured bits of history from Queen Elizabeth I.
The Queen’s Tea Menu
For the tea, we enjoyed traditional cucumber sandwiches, English cheese and ham roll-ups, fresh berries and crackers with cheese and chutney.
An occasion like this calls for dessert. I had found the Meri Meri “Little Old London Cupcake Kit” at TJ Maxx months ago and this seemed like the perfect event to use them.
Of course, the Queen of Hearts must have tarts too.
Plus plenty of tea.
Royal Wear
I wore one of the scarves to the tea.
This lovely silk specimen has the Irish shamrock, the Scottish thistle, the Welsh leek and the Tudor Rose of England.
Part of the design features King Edwards chair, circa 1308. Upon this throne, all sovereigns of England (until 1603) and then Great Britain have sat in the chair at the moment of their coronation. The only exception was Queen Mary II who sat in a copy of the chair.
The last scarf in the group was sent to cousin Sweet T who’s as nuts about the British Royal Family as I am.
I knew it had to be hers as it features the Gold State Coach. Sweet T has said on numerous occasions that if she were Queen she’d be out in that coach every day.
All of the scarves must never have been worn as the colors are still so vibrant.
Congratulations to Queen Elizabeth. Long may she reign!

God save the Queen! Long live the Queen!
I love those scarves. And remember my motto – when I do something old fashioned, such as wearing a scarf or a hat or a big brooch, and people comment, I say “if it's good enough for the Queen, it's good enough for me.”

What a beautiful post and how lucky you were to get such a find as those three lovely scarves! I really enjoy how you set a mood. I admire the Queen, she has endured through a lot of joy and pain in her life and has truly devoted her life to her nation. Long may she reign in the United Kingdom.

Wow. Isn't it a spectacular day to celebrate such an inspiring woman. “Rock” indeed.
I couldn't help but notice the monogram on the red box's lid. I wouldn't have though, except for your fabulous finds… from a thrift store. Did you do a happy dance that would've made me proud, girl?! Yes, right there in the accessories aisle/bin/pile/rack/DUMP?!?! Mahvelous, dahling are the only words to muster.
Enjoy your company. Rebekah Louise is putting the finishing touches on my new blog this week… My turn to happy dance.
*hugs*

Loved it Laura! And how you lucked out on the scarf. But just to be a grouch, no pinkies up. Everything was perfect, as usual. I just can't get over those gorgeous scarves!

Laura, what luck to find three coronation scarves in such a timely manner. I have a few in my box of British treasures, but I think they are different from yours. My grandfather was born in England, so I've saved things that were sent to me as a child, though some things I've given to others or have simply been lost through the years. This is a delightful post. I shared a tribute at Hyacinths, but didn't have a tea party. I did link back to the party I had for her Jubilee. That was fun!
