The Queen of Hearts

Tomorrow, the Fashionista turns 20. I am in a state of wavering between disbelief that time has passed so quickly and relief that I have survived living with a teenage girl. But she is The Queen of Hearts.

The Queen of Hearts
The Queen of Hearts

The Fashionista and I are very similar in that we are two very creative souls. But while my creative soul hovers in a time period of 200 years ago, she is very modern-minded. Yet we somehow find ways to compromise that don’t leave us climbing the walls.

As many of you know, The Fashionista is currently finishing up her sophomore year as a fashion design student. Her inspiration this semester has been part Chanel, part Alice in Wonderland.

The Queen of Hearts

I perused the internet for days looking for inspiration for this post. I wanted the images to reflect her. It had to be perfect. The pursuit of perfection always causes a bit of anxiety and discomfort.

Chanel Alice in Wonderland
Beginning to feel like Tweedledee or Dumb, I grinned like a Cheshire cat when I found these images created by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue in December of 2003.
Chanel Alice in Wonderland
The search was over. Now I have time to plan some fun and games to mark this special occasion.

We will be celebrating with a tea party. Check your pocket watch, so you won’t be late. It’s never a party until you arrive.

I am planning all sorts of delicacies and delights. Of course, there will be cake.

Fashionista, I fell head over heels in love the day that you were born. You will always remain the queen of my heart.

Congrats to your daughter on her 20th birthday and of course congrats to you too on being a mom for 20 years! I read this article in a dutch magazine this week, in a magazine I bought at the thriftstore. I was impressed and now I see it again. You know that occurs often. You have never heard of something and suddenly it pops up every where. Strange phenomena! Enjoy your weekend, let’s party!
