Today I am Celebrating the Bicentenary of Jane Austen. Tuesday, July 18, 2017, marks the bicentennial passing of one of the world's most beloved authors, Jane Austen. Celebrations honoring Miss Austen are being held the world over. Summer Snapshot Slipcovered Antique French Chairs

Summer Snapshot Slipcovered Antique French Chairs. Oh, there is nothing that gives a cool and easy summertime vibe more than slipcovered furniture. I recently had my antique French chairs covered in antique French métis. The chairs were found a few years ago at Round Top. They sported their original dark wood finish and 100+-year-old dusty and dirty needlepoint upholstery. After I removed 10 million staples the chairs were given a makeover with paint and upholstery. Summer Snapshot, Our New Flooring

I had wanted to do a big, splashy reveal post for our new flooring. But summer has arrived and it is in full swing. If I waited until everything was cleaned and decorated and the house was empty of teenage boys… well, it would be a good month or two maybe never for that post to be possible. But that is a bit wordy. (smile) This past Tuesday I took a two-hour college final worth 200 points. Despite my previous A + work in the upper-level class, the instructor had made passing the final criteria for passing the class. So if I didn’t pass the final I would not pass the class. Which meant I would not ... View the Post

How To Stay Safe This Summer

Today I will have the tough parental job of escorting my son to the funeral Mass of a fellow Boy Scout. It's an experience that led me to write How To Stay Safe This Summer. I write this post to honor the memory of Boy Scout John “Reid” Comita. Reid was an amazing 15-year-old upcoming sophomore and honor student. He was actively involved in his school men’s chorus and the Scouting program. Just last month Reid, along with my son, completed their Order of the Arrow challenge and became ... View the Post
