Create Rustic Holiday Ribbon

I am participating in two holiday home tours this season. For that reason, I am already in the planning stages of what themes I will be using in each room. The family room will receive a “Rustic Plaid” decor. Here is how to Create Rustic Holiday Ribbon.

In shopping the house for this theme I remembered some old quilt squares my great grandmother had started shortly after the Depression Era. She truly saved every scrap of fabric. Even the penny size bits were put to good use.

I have been doing my own fair share of sewing and started to look at my scraps in a different light. One evening while I was watching television I cut the wee bits into fairly uniform rectangle shapes. I then simply sewed them together on my machine to create a rustic ribbon.

It looks so cute wrapped around baked bread and jars of homemade jam.

Paving Ribbon

I can imagine an entire hostess basket filled with several wrapped items.

The rustic ribbon will be used for tree garland and of course, wrapping presents!

I may have inherited my great grandmother’s frugalness even more than I know because I found the perfect storage system for the ribbon. Cardboard bathroom tissue rolls.

I can’t wait to use the white lace bits I am working with right now.

Very pretty trims! They would be cute tied on to a jute twine for a garland as well and you could tea stain them for a rustic look.
I would say you have learned well from great grandma! 🙂

Oh my gosh, how cute is this? And so “in” this year as plaid is the “it” fashion and decor go-to this holiday season! You make your great grandmother proud! And thank you so much for linking up to Vintage Charm this week!
