Hello friends! It has been far too long since I featured a fun new sewing post. Most of my hobby time has been spent creating costumes and projects for others the past few years. It felt great to create something fun over the long weekend. I hope you enjoy A Cozy Dress For Early Fall.

Butterick B6872
I recently hosted a fabric sale on my Facebook and Instagram profiles. (There are several fabrics still available.) Much of the fabric was beautiful vintage cotton calico.
I received a few messages that inquired how one could use such an old fashioned fabric. Since many people are visual learners I decided to make a new dress for myself. It has been over a year since I created a new casual frock that would be comfortable to wear around the house but also look great while running errands.
I had picked up Butterick B6872 for 99 cents when Joann’s was having a going out of business sale.
TIP: You can still purchase patterns from stores such as Michaels, Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby and directly from the various pattern websites.
I would recommend this pattern for an intermediate level and above sewist. The pleated bodice and sleeves are a bit fiddly. I selected View “B” to make.
Two adjustments to the pattern. The first was moving the zipper from the back to the left side. It is a personal preference that provides a cleaner and more hidden look.

The sleeves were first made as instructed and I did not like the look of them. So I removed the pleats, ran a row of gathering threads and created an armband/cuff to fit my upper arm. This resulted in this look below. Like Anne of Green Gables, I adore a puffed sleeve!

A bit of vintage cotton rick rack was sewn onto the tucks on the bodice. I also added a single row to each sleeve seam where it is gathered to the upper cuff.

Cozy Dress For Early Fall
I wore the dress yesterday for a long day of work, appointments and errands. It was very comfortable.
Several people stopped me to ask where I got the dress from which always makes my heart smile.

I typically only make a specific pattern once. There are too many other designs that I want to sew to do a repeat. But I might be tempted to make View A of the pattern for a summer frock.

What are you adding to your fall wardrobe?

Beautiful Laura…I have started wearing dresses for the summer and into the Fall since I am in Florida. This dress…https://amzn.to/3JO6FNf ….
I have received so many compliments that it is almost embarrassing…notice I said almost. I have it in two colors, the green paisley and blue and red. You are so talented with your frocks…I wish I could sew as well as you do. Happy September my friend.
Blessings Always

Laura, this dress is adorable on you! I love the colors and puffed sleeves!
I adore this dress, and you wear it so beautifully. Vintage calico is always my go-to fabric! Puffed sleeves….oh yes!! And those tucks…….love the look of tucks (even though it can be a bit tedious and tricky sewing them). As always, you did an amazing job!
