Good morning sweet friends, I hope you are all well. I’ve been sorting through some of the oldest pieces in my fabric collection to create Scarecrow Hats For Costumes.
Scarecrow Hats For Costumes
Many of you commented on the sweet hat Stevie was wearing in the recent Country Girls sewing reveal post.
I then made a larger adult version and wore it out to the grocery store recently to see if there was any interest (market research) and had multiple people come up to me, smile at me, etc.
Joy
As many longtime readers know, this past year I have been making numerous costume clothing items for the Little House 50th Anniversary Celebration. The costume collection was shown at events in California, Kansas, Conneticut and Pennsylvania.
Everywhere I traveled the costumes brought hundreds of people such JOY!
A Gift Of The Heart
One thing many people aren’t aware of is that much of the fabric and all of the months of my sewing time to create the costume collection was a gift from my heart. It was a true joy to share Little House love.
The costumes were taken to all the events in the back of Mr. Decor’s pickup truck at my own expense.
Have you heard the expression Giving always comes back to you tenfold?
In order to offset my travel expsenses I sold handcrafted merchandise at my booth. My dearest friends showed up to assist me at a stitch and stuff party.
I still get tears in my eyes when I think of their generous hearts.
Thank you Kisha, Starr, Dartanyan, Dixie, Becky, not shown are Julia, Kirstyn and Michele.
I couldn’t have done this without you!
An Amazing Opportunity
I now have an opportunity to drive the costume collection out to California where it would be included in a Little House on the Prairie 50th Anniversary exhibit at the Museum of Television in Hollywood.
To offset my travel expenses I decided to get out my sewing machine. I dug through some of my oldest fabrics in my collection.
Charming quilt blocks from the 1920s and 30s along with vintage fabric, and trims were transformed into Scarecrow Hats inspired by the amazing Ray Bolger in his iconic role.
The darling prints and not quite perfect patches make me smile.
The hats can be worn in a variety of ways.
Right now Alyssa Lou likes the hats straight up.
WARNING: wearing these happy hats make other people smile.
Kids like them too.
I even incorporated a hat into my front door decor.
Some of the hats also feature bells and raffia.
In my Etsy shop you can also find a variety of handcrafted treasures such as mini quilts.
There are small pioneer travel kits based on designs that people have carried for centuries. They are often referred to as hussifs or housewives.
They make perfect stocking stuffers too.
You can find everything in my Etsy Shop.
Thank you so much for reading this post. I truly appreciate your support!
