Hello sweet friends, today I have a special travel-themed post for you. Recently, the Fashionista and I took a trip to Salem, Massachusetts. Our primary purpose for the visit was to photograph the reveal shots for this year’s upcoming costume extravaganza. But we also couldn’t resist A Little Hocus Pocus In Salem.

In the opening scenes of the now classic movie Hocus Pocus Zachary Binx, in human form, is shown at the Pioneer Village.

The Pioneer Village in Salem was built in 1930 to mark the tercentennial of Massachusetts.

The Ropes Mansion

The Ropes Mansion also known to fans as Alison’s house, is shown in the film hosting  a Halloween party.

The Nathaniel Ropes Mansion is a Georgian era Colonial home.

 It was first constructed in the late 1720s for merchant Samuel Barnard.

Judge Nathaniel Ropes purchased the home in 1768.

The home stayed with the family for several generations until 1907.

Each generation added their own updates and extensions.  

It was bequeathed to to the Essex Institute for the purpose of establishing a free school of botany.

The Essex Institute eventually merged with the Peabody Essex Museum in 1992.

The gardens are free to tour on the weekend.

In the garden you can several notable surrounding structures including The First Church in Salem.

The current version of the church was built in built in 1836.

Max and Dani’s house in the movie is a charming private home built in 1870.

The Old Town Hall was the location where Bette Midler’s character, Winifred Sanderson, sang I Put A Spell On You.

The Salem Common is a 17th century park located in the heart of Salem.  The bandstand was constructed in 1926 in the Colonial Revival style.

Later in the week we’ll take a trip to another 17th century dwelling in Salem.

    My daughter worked at the House of the Seven Gables until 2 years ago when she moved to another museum…wonder if that’s your next house?
