Hello sweet friends! Welcome to the September edition of the Pinterest Challenge. This monthly event is hosted by the amazing Cindy of County Road 407. Today I am sharing the third installment of autumn decor here at Storybook Cottage. It is Soft Shades Of Fall The Bedroom. If you are coming over from Everyday Edits may I say, “Welcome to Storybook Cottage”. I loved Laura’s fall-themed shelf!
Soft Shades Of Fall The Bedroom
This month the challenge is a fall-themed bedroom shelf. Our lovely inspiration photo comes from Golden Boys & Me.
The image features:
- A rubbed bronze headboard
- Fall colored bed linens
- Seating at the end of the bed embellished with a pumpkin
- Farmhouse inspired artwork
- Long shelf
- Three wood candlesticks
- Books
- Pumpkins
- Fall greenery
- Basket with blanket, books, and a pumpkin
The Challenge
I knew instantly which bedroom would receive this fall transformation. Our master bedroom has a very similar setup.
My room features:
- A rubbed bronze headboard
- Fall colored bed linens
- Seating at the end of the bed embellished with a pumpkin
- Farmhouse inspired artwork
- Long shelf
- Three wood candlesticks
- Books
- Pumpkins
- Fall greenery
- Basket with blanket, books, and a pumpkin
Let’s take it from the top.
The main focal point is the shelf.
I have had this shelf for at least 10 years. It’s been hanging upstairs in the craft closet for the past 7 years. I had no time or desire to repaint it so my primary color would be turquoise. Because most of you know how I feel about orange.
The Home Sweet Home sign has been hanging in my kitchen for several years. But since the kitchen is being remodeled it was perfect for use in this vignette. Wood candle holders, paperback books, pumpkins, and greenery complete the look.
Working our way down one can see that the rubbed bronze headboard is very similar. The decorative fall-themed pillow ties in the turquoise and natural tones.
The bedding was primarily gray and white in the inspiration photo but I used what I had which was in tones of taupe and cream.
At the foot of the bed is the French settee. I won it in an eBay auction for $29 years ago. It has been decorated with many different accents depending on the season.
This go around it received one pumpkin placed on a stack of books. Mr. Decor actually uses the settee to put on and take off his shoes. So my very own Mr. Rogers does need an actual spot to sit.
Pumpkins and Poe
In the inspiration photo, there was a basket with a blanket, books, and pumpkin. Now I am fairly sure this was just a “prop” photo. But given the placement was on Mr. Decor’s side of the bed I could hear him in my ear.
“Hey neighbor, you need to take that basket and send it on the trolley because I don’t live in the land of make-believe.”
So my basket is on the oversized slipcovered chair.
Of course, the books were carefully selected for the season. This time of year you just can’t beat Gothic master, Edgar Allen Poe.

You have the perfect little shelf over the bed and the blue pumpkins are pretty cute Laura! By the way I love the slipcovered chair in the corner. It makes me want to get out the sewing machine and make something!

I could so live in a room like that. The colors are so restful and you know I adore turquoise. It’s probably my favorite color. Love the throw, too. It’s beautiful, Laura.

Your soft, gentle take on fall décor for your master bedroom is beautiful. I love the calm neutrals and the touches of blue instead of the hot reds, oranges and golds for a bedroom as change up. (The one little orange pumpkin on the pillow almost seems saucy amongst all the gentleness. Love it!)
The sweet bench and the pretty headboard work so well. I always enjoy your décor posts and seeing how you take your lovely basic pieces and make them look so fresh and perfect for the season. A true and talented artist!
Thank you for sharing your talents and ideas!! <3

Love your Mr Rogers references, Laura. Reminds me how my son will say, “Is this another fake table, that we won’t ever eat at?” Ah, life of a blogger;) Loved your aqua touches; I love using it in the Fsll with orange. Hope the remodel is going well!

Laura, you lucky girl. You had the perfect shelf for the PC and I love that you left it turquoise I love the other pops of turquoise you used. I use our bench also for putting on shoes. But I do love how you styled yours.

What a wonderful job on the challenge Laura! Love your shelf and the soft colors you used everywhere. I could sit and read in that chair all day and be perfectly fine. Happy fall friend. Pinned

I enjoy that you make fine decor achievable. Your take on the inspiration was fresh and you; I can see a couple living comfortably with the touches you’ve added. My husband would also comment that while the look is pretty, he still needs a place for his stuff on the nightstand so please move the pumpkins! Your home has such a warm, gracious feel but one to live in rather than just be for show. Brava, Laura, brava!
