Hello sweet friends! Welcome to the March edition of the Pinterest Challenge. This monthly event is hosted by Cindy of County Road 407. Didn’t you love Marty’s Easter table at A Stroll Thru Life ? Today I am sharing a Sweet Tweet Tablescape.
A Sweet Tweet Tablescape
This month the challenge is to create a birdhouse-themed tablescape. Our lovely inspiration photo comes from Doreen of Hymns & Verses.
The image features:
- A birdhouse
- Spring blooms
- Blue mason jar
- Bird nest
- Wicker basket
- A bird-themed image
- Burlap table runner
A Special Birdhouse
As the central theme is a birdhouse I knew exactly what I would use as a focal point. If you know me by now you are aware that I like to surround myself with objects that tell a story. Way back in 2010 I visited Cape May, New Jersey. If you ever get a chance to go DO IT! It is America’s oldest seaside resort town and is filled with charming homes and gardens.
I had written about staying at The Chalfonte Hotel. It dates back to 1876. While we were there they were replacing sections of the old wooden hotel. A local artist took the old wood and transformed the pieces into various birdhouses. I couldn’t resist marking my visit by purchasing one.
I also began gathering:
- Spring blooms
- Blue mason jars
- A bird nest
- One wicker charger
- A bird-themed plate
- An antique linen table runner
Blossom Bandit
Trigger Warning: this next segment might garner a few chuckles or gasps!
Spring is definitely busting out all over here in Texas. All of the pear and redbud trees are blooming right now.
Looking to purchase some blooming branches I went to two different grocery stores. I felt it was important to have this crucial element as they play such a significant role in the inspiration photo.
I left the second store totally defeated. As I walked back to my car I noticed that it was parked next to a tree that was showering the hood in a sea of white blossoms.
Yes, I did it! I’m GUILTY!!! Break out the handcuffs. I used the scissors in my first aid kit to snip off a few branches. (What! You don’t have such a kit in the trunk of your car? Why not?)
I did wait a few minutes to be scolded or carted away. When that didn’t happen I left the scene of the shameful crime. My blossom branches riding shotgun in the front seat.
Creative Criminal
Once home I laid down an antique linen runner and topped it with a wicker charger. While I do have a wicker basket it was too large for the small kitchen table. I then added the birdhouse, burgled blooms, and a few other sweet tweets.
The front.
The side sports a ceramic bird figurine and a nest.
The back features a lovely little glass decoupage plate.
A few antique spoons were tied up for a bit of sparkle.
My family doesn’t always comment on my decorating shenanigans but each person said that they loved it.
Up next is the truly talented Our Southern Home.
I hope you have enjoyed this monthβs Pinterest Challenge.

Your table scape is so pretty! I love the blue from the bottles and you have blossoms in your area already??? Oh my, how lucky! We will be weeks yet but they are so welcome when they do arrive. Collecting things together to make a display always makes them so much more interesting. No wonder your family appreciated your beautiful work.
Thank you for sharing and brightening my day! <3

I love using my nests and birdhouses in table or other decor and you rocked it big time with this one, Laura. It’s really beautiful and all the more so because of the deeply personal connection to the bird house. It’s really charming. I love and appreciate small centerpieces partly because my table is rather small itself. Four stars!

Oh, Laura, I love the phrase “burgled blooms!” Your centerpiece is charming and the birdhouse one-of-a-kind. You might enjoy the latest book by Myquillyn Smith, Welcome Home. Each season has its own section, with chapters on the season, decorating for it and then celebrating, or entertaining, during that season. She encourages readers to shop their backyards, neighborhoods and yes, shopping center parking lots (!) for natural accents. She compares a “consumer” season to a “”creator” season, and I know she would love your spring centerpiece.

Laura, what a pretty little centerpiece ~ perfect for the kitchen table. I will not turn you in for snipping off the white branches. I just want to know if you climbed the tree to reach them! The birdhouse is so cute and what a wonderful memento of your trip. The bird and the mason jars are the perfect addition. Have a Happy Spring. Hopefully, us Texas girls can get together soon.

You created a most beautiful centerpiece, Laura! It’s so special that there are a story and a memory behind your birdhouse. I’ve never been to Cape May but I would like to go there after reading about what a great time you had there. The flowering branches look great in your blue jars and I would not worry one bit about taking a few. I always love seeing your version of each Pinterest Challenge.

Thanks for the laughs during your escapade of burgling the beautiful blooms! I so wish our fruit trees were blossoming now, but it will be about April 10th before we see that happen. I am so glad yours are so pretty, despite that frigid weather you had last month! Such a cute arrangement and it certainly looks like Spring at your house!

Laura, you know I’m the queen of roadside treasure and that totally includes flowers! In the Spring, I know exactly where to pick armfuls of lilacs in a variety of colors. I have no shame. I bring a couple big buckets of water and my clippers and I go to town. No, they’re not in anyone’s yard; one is in a parking lot next to a DQ and the other was at the end of a dead end road. Yes, the people walking their dogs notices, but I choose to think they are thinking, “I should do that”! ( I have other spots for sunflowers in September;) I love that you shared that story! And I love your sentimental birdhouse and your beautiful-all-around centerpiece. Always love seeing your creative mind at work!

I always bring something back from my travels that has a good story and would have jumped at the chance to bring back one of these cute bird houses. It looks perfect in your centerpiece along with your nicked branches. The blooms won’t last very long so I’m glad you’re enjoying them.

That sure is a sweet centerpiece! I epecially love the blue of the mason jars. I wish I could have shared some of our redbud blooms with you, but it looks like you managed to get “creative”! A trip to Cape May is on my bucket list. A long time ago , I saw I show on a Cape May Victorian Christmas and I recorded it. It was just so enchanting!

Laura, I love how your centerpiece turned out and you were so right to “steal” those branches! They are perfect and gorgeous!! It all came together so beautifully!
