Welcome to the April Pinterest Challenge Create A Garden Themed Centerpiece. This monthly event is hosted by Cindy of County Road 407. If you are visiting from Our Southern Home may I say “Welcome to Storybook Cottage!”
Create A Garden Themed Centerpiece
This month’s challenge was inspired by some cute garden-inspired decor by Cottage At The Crossroads. The topsy turvy planter features three galvanized buckets and one container. They are filled with an assortment of flowers and plants.
SUPPLIES
Other than going to the grocery store I haven’t left my house in a month. That won’t change anytime soon. So the CHALLENGE portion this month was working with what I had on hand at home. I did get lucky in that my grocery store had a few small Petunia and Vinca plant offerings.
- Galvanized containers (I had a watering can and fluted container.)
- Plants and flowers
- Vase
- Spanish moss
DIY Tutorial
There are just three simple steps to create the centerpiece. It took me less than five minutes to make it.
Step one: Position the watering can in the center of the fluted container.
To achieve the look I wanted the watering can needed to be raised. This is where an upside-down vase came to the rescue.
Step two: Simply fill the containers with plants.
Because this planter is intended as a centerpiece for the patio table I wanted to hide the dirt. Eventually, the petunias will grow lusher and fill in the bare areas. Until then:
Step three: Add Spanish moss to cover the dirt but still allow easy watering.
Dining Al Fresco
There have been quite a few perfect spring days lately. Mr. Decor is currently working from home. He likes to spend his lunchtime enjoying the garden.
I layered two vintage tablecloths across the table and topped them with seagrass chargers. The antique transferware matched the centerpiece well.
There is really not a bad seat to be had at the table.
From the angle above you can take in the gorgeous purple irises in one corner.
The other corner contains the bountiful blooms of the climbing rose arbor.
Through the arbor, you can see the large center yard bed. This was where we planted our Victory Garden for Blackthumbs.
At four weeks in the zucchini have started to blossom.
Our rose tree on the left and the container garden is also growing like gangbusters.
Peter Piper better not pick my pretty pepper blossoms.
So what was on the menu for our Super Fancy Garden Lunch: pizza and salad. Care for a slice?

I am in love with both of your galvanized pieces and that is one adorable centerpiece. Perfect for your beautiful surroundings. I’m with the hubs on this one too. I’d like to spend my lunch (okay and all other meals) out there. And once this covid craziness stops, I’m on the hunt for some vintage table cloths. My oh my those are fab. Thanks so much for joining in. I love what you created!

Perfect, Laura! I love it with the petunias and yes, it will be wonderful when the “drop” over but till then, a great solution.

Laura,
I have garden envy at this moment. Your centerpiece on the table is beautiful and creative.
Your trellis is beautiful too. I am looking forward to getting outside. Grey, rainy and cool here. We can’t seem to get a few days of sun.
Our lilacs are ready to show themselves if we could get sun.
Beautiful garden.
