The Promise of Easter Dress
I like making a new dress to wear to church on Easter. Although our church is currently closed I have hope we will soon be gathered together again. Having hope and a positive focus is so helpful right now.

Vogue V9294
The dress was created from the Vogue pattern V9294. It is a current re-release of a 1930’s pattern.
I selected “View B”. The dress has a side zipper, pleated sleeves, and collared neckline. I would say that this pattern requires an intermediate sewing skill level. There were no construction issues and the instructions were written well.
The vintage cotton fabric was an estate sale find.
My sky blue leather shoes are the “Jane” style by Julia Bo.

Lovely! I’m hoping we’ll be able to be back at church by Easter, but who knows. Someone reminded me recently that the Christians at the first Easter were huddled in homes, wondering what was going to happen before they knew the resurrection had occurred. I think this will have us all appreciating the ability to meet together when we finally get back to tat.
I love your sweet blue Easter dress! There’s just something so pretty about a soft pastel floral print. Isn’t it just wonderful how sewing is such good therapy at times like this ? Especially with all you’ve gone through lately!

My funniest memory (funny now, not then) of an Easter outfit was the Easter I was 13. Mom made me a lovely pink suit. However, on Easter morning we woke up to one of the deepest snows I ever remember. I had to wear a wool skirt, a heavy sweater, a winter coat, and snow boots. But, spring finally arrived and I was able to enjoy my suit.

Sweet dress for Easter. I sure hope we can all meet again to celebrate Easter but if not it will be a wonderful celebration when we finally can meet again.
The dress is beautiful on you. The pattern itself is quite simple, but your gorgeous hair and pretty face make it special. You are very photogenic.
My favorite Easter memory is of my mother and I going to an exclusive little shop in Hubbard Woods, Illinois, where she bought me the most beautiful silk pink coat that I had ever seen. It was the early 1960s and the coat was very Mod. Then we went to a second-hand store and found my first pair of kitten heels and we found them in pink leather! I had a geometric haircut and I was in seventh heaven when I walked into church. When I got back to the pew after receiving communion, my mother bent over and whispered, “The price was written in big black numbers on the bottoms of your shoes.” I think the marker had recently been invented. She was laughing to herself and I was appalled that everyone who was looking at my fabulous ensemble saw that my shoes came from the thrift store.. Vanity, oh, vanity.
Laura, the fabric that you used is charming. That was a real find. It looks like it has a nice weight which makes all the difference in the world with how the dress falls and if it is see-through. You look so beautiful in the color blue. I love the dress pattern and as always you have done a beautiful job of tailoring the dress to fit you perfectly.

The dress is wonderful (and I adore the blue shoes, too!). Such a pretty color for you. We will still be in Shelter in Place on Easter (and to honest, I hope for a lot longer than that; I will be regardless). But who says you can’t wear that pretty dress at home for Easter?!
Like Christmas in the Grinch story, Easter will come – without baskets, eggs, candy, flowers, new clothes, big dinners, or church, if necessary, but it will come. And to paraphrase Linus, that’s what Easter is all about Charlie Brown – the triumph of hope!
