Earlier this week we lost a a big dose of lovely sparkle with the passing of Dolly Rebecca Parton. It’s hard to imagine a world without her talent, humor and goodness. But I believe Dolly’s beautiful legacy can continue if people remember to share laughter, kindness and love. Here’s to Friday Favorites Dear Dolly.

Dolly’s Childhood Home
When research began for this post I tried to find a tour of one or more of Dolly Parton’s homes. It is so interesting to me that with the exception of one tiny cabin, she never shared her homes with any magazine or television show. This truly says so much about her.
Dolly Parton grew up in a cabin that still exists today. It is located on Locust Ridge in Sevier County. It is not open for tours. But there is a wonderful replica at Dollywood.

Dolly’s Fashionable Favorites
Earlier this week I shared some of my favorite looks that Dolly wore over the years on Instagram. The video included my visit to Dollywood where some of her clothing and costumes are on display.
Set to open in September, Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum is the largest exhibit celebrating her life anywhere in the world.
Dolly Parton On Beauty
Dolly Parton came out with her own makeup line a few years ago. I loved this article where she talked about beauty. Here’s just one quote: “I try all the new things that come out, but there’s nothing better than good old Vaseline and those Almay eye makeup remover pads. I use those little pads to clean my face and it leaves enough mineral oil on my skin that it’s a good nighttime moisturizer. I have pretty good skin considering my age, and I think a lot of it is mineral oil and bacon grease.”
The Imagination Library
The Parton family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations of books should be given in Dolly’s memory. This goes back to a tribute to Dolly’s father who could not read or write. Parton said that her father was one of the smartest men she knew but his illiteracy restricted his dreams. In 1995 she began The Imagination Library to ensure that every child could receive free, high-quality books each month from birth until age five, regardless of their family’s income. As of today over 300 millions books have been donated.
