Hello sweet friends! I hope you have all had a wonderful week. We have been assisting the Fashionista into setting in to her new apartment, as well as working in the garden and on home repairs. I’ve decided that like the Europeans I am in need of a month off. It won’t be a vacation, more like catching up. I will check in here and there as well as every weekend to share lovely things I encounter. So let’s kick it off with Sunday Smiles 105.
Sunday Smiles 105
You may have seen the lovely turn of the century building that the Fashionista moved out of as the building has been sold. It was shared last Sunday HERE. (I never shared it previously for safety reasons as it is a rather recognizable building in Fort Worth.) She’s moved into a new 100 year old home that has original cabinetry in the tiny kitchen. I loved this article on decorating small kitchens.
Chicken Cobb Salad
I haven’t felt much like turning on the oven due to the heat. But this salad looks delicious! It uses grilled chicken which you can generally find in the deli section of most grocery stores if you don’t want to cook at all.
Doily Bowl
My dear friend Jeanie of The Marmalade Gypsy recently sent me some lovely lace and a few doilies in soft neutral shades of white, cream and sand. I’d love to transform a few using this easy tutorial.
Summer Reading Wish List
I’m currently on the hunt for The Dress Diary of Mrs. Anne Sykes. It shares the life of one woman and her some of her family and friends. A ledger of fabric entries has been memorialized. Small handwritten notes accompanying each piece of cloth. What a treasure! You can read the authors notes here.
A Summer Home Tour
Earlier this week Vintage Home Designs share a summer home tour. It includes a video which was so lovely to watch.
Cold Comfort Farm
This past week I found a classic DVD at my library. Cold Comfort Farm is based on a 1932 novel by Stella Gibbons and is such fun. I had to turn on the captions so I would not miss all the hilarious dialogue shared between the vast array of quirky characters. The 1930s fashions are a delight as well.
I’d love to hear all about your summer reading and what you are watching.

I love all the small kitchens! As for watching…we started the Yellowstone prequel – 1883 – with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. I look forward to when 1910 is streamed on a channel we already have. It has Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. I love seeing all the fashions like you do for the 1930s show you’re watching (my second favorite decade of fashion, next to the 1920s). Have a great week, Laura.

I’m really enjoying the Anne Sykes book. I only wish there were little sketches of the garments to go along with the fabric swatches!
