Creating No Cost Fall Inspired Artwork

If you need a new autumnal accessory and want it to be little to no cost then this post, Creating No Cost Fall Inspired Artwork, is for you! This hop is hosted by the talented Amber of Follow The Yellow Brick Home. If you are coming over from The Crowned Goat may I say, “Welcome to Storybook Cottage”. I loved CoCo’s fall-themed crafts.

This project was the result of a big fat Pinterest FAIL! My friend Michele had sent me the image below and said “We should make some of these!”

I had tons of leftover yarn from previous projects and a few of the necessary styrofoam pumpkins so I thought this was a GREAT idea!

But the yarn needed for this project is specified that it needs to be THICK. This is a crucial factor. After two hours of effort my pumpkin, with its thin yarn, was bald and sad.

Not wanting to scrap everything I thought “What else can I make with yarn? Maybe a wreath?”

Over the years I’ve made several projects with yarn. Including a wreath.

I thought about the Boho macrame wreaths that are so popular right now.

I’ve also seen the wreaths made with embroidery and quilting hoops. This made me think about this gem I made a few years ago. A quick dig through the Halloween decor and it was transformation time.

I first wrapped the hoop with yarn.

I then played around with adding braided yarn trim at the bottom.

Braided yarn

But ultimately decided on a free-flowing design. The strands were just hot glued to the bottom edge.

I then added faux foliage from last year’s front door wreath to repurpose it.

The total time investment was about 2 hours. Most of it was spent wrapping the yarn around the hoop. I did this while watching the classic How Green Was My Valley with Maureen O’Hara.

This Week’s Video

In this week’s video, I share my mantel decorated for the fall, additional details on the wreath, and my fall sewing plans. Hint: Anne of Green Gables.

So many fabulous Fall craft ideas, Laura! I can’t get over how budget-friendly they are to make too. You are so creative.! I’m definitely sending the crochet and spider hoop wreath to my sister. Her family loves Halloween and she will be bananas over it. Hugs, CoCo

LOL – Life lessons from Laura. I wish you had taken a picture of your sad bald pumpkin. Might make me feel better after some of my pumpkin fails. Like the time I tried to mod podge a pumpkin and it ended up having more clumps of fuzz from other things on it than paper. Hope the rest of your new projects this year turn out as pretty as the ones you’ve shown us.

Fun fall wreaths Laura! I really need to get busy making one and I have plenty of yarn to get started. I like to hang them on the inside of my front door too. Just so you know I have a lot of projects that never make it to the blog. That’s that way it goes sometimes! LOL!

Wow, Laura, that wreath is really pretty. I’ve never seen an oval hoop before so that is on my list to find. I love a project like this that you can do while watching a good movie. I love the idea of wrapping the hoop with yarn. Happy to be hopping with you again.

Those pumpkins really are cute. I bet they’d work with your braided yarn. I LOVE how the boho wreath turned out with the hanging yarn. Easy with great style!
