Welcome to the May Pinterest Challenge Create A Summer Porch/Patio. This monthly event is hosted by Cindy of County Road 407. If you are visiting from the truly talented Our Southern Home may I say “Welcome to Storybook Cottage!” Today I am sharing our Happy Summer Porch Decor.
Happy Summer Porch Decor
This month’s challenge was inspired by a gorgeous front porch created by Bria Hammel.
It features:
- A front porch.
- Lovely classic color combination, crisp blue and white.
- Touches of live greenery and potted blooms.
- Galvanized metal accents.
Lemons Into Lemonade
So what do you do if you don’t have a front porch per se?
You decorate your entire front yard.
Recently my son’s high school announced that it was going to do a car parade in lieu of graduation. I purchased $80 worth of nonrefundable parade float decor.
A few days later the high school canceled the graduation car parade citing it went against the current policy of “no large group gatherings.”
So I decided that the parade float materials would make excellent exterior house decor.
The front entryway features:
- A lovely classic color combination of blue and yellow ~ my son’s school colors.
- Touches of live greenery and potted blooms.
- Galvanized metal accents.
Technically the petunias are purple but they were the closest I could get to blue flowers.
Many of you know that I live on a horseshoe-shaped street. We are a close-knit community that has block parties and more.
Because everyone is currently home right now I see my neighbors every day. Either when I walk our doxie Gracie or when they pass by our home on their daily walks.
They have all been so supportive of the two seniors that live on our street and wanted a sign when it was approaching “Graduation Day”.
So, I obliged.
That’s A Lot Of Cords
My son was an AP Scholar (It’s like National Honor Society on steroids.) He was also a member of quite a few clubs and even president of one.
Since our front entry is not covered I needed to come up with alternative front door decor.
The grapevine wreath has been up in our attic since we moved here. I don’t like to use round wreaths on our front door due to the oval window. But, as we are sticking close to home you make do. The various blooms came from previous projects.
I didn’t have enough of the blue plaid ribbon so I layered in the gold.
I hope you have enjoyed our summer porch!

Up next in the lineup is the delightful Sweet Pea.

You are the best Momma! I love the graduation decor and how you made the sad subject of a cancelled parade into something fun and happy! And to use gold ribbon when you didn’t have enough of the blue plaid was smart! Ian must have felt special. Thank you for joining in and I love your porch! Pinned

Making lemonade out of lemons is so right Laura and your son will remember how proud you are of him. I hope others will be inspired to create this for their grad as well.

I do love your porch and the creativity of using the robe on the door and then the revised grapevine. I know he had to feel very special to have his mom supporting him in this way — and what wonderful achievements, as an AP scholar! Well done to you both!

WOW! I think that turned out great. What a fun use of those items . Congrats to your VERY SMART son. He is lucky to have such a supportive mom. It is wonderful to have good neighbors. After just moving, e have only met our new neighbors by a wave or two here and there. We have a community pool that people gather at daily but it hasn’t opened yet. It is kind of a late afternoon cocktail swim, I guess. lol
Hope you have a good week! xo Diana
