Saturday Smiles A Small World

I adored this darling interpretation of a room inspired by a Disney favorite. So many things this week made me think about how today we can now reach one another so easily. This resulted in Saturday Smiles A Small World.

It was SO wonderful to see posts written this past week that didn’t focus just on the sweetheart aspect of Valentine’s Day. This gorgeous event truly could work for bridal and baby showers or just a sweet gathering of friends.

Viewing:

Longtime readers know that I really enjoy watching British period films and BBC (PBS) television productions. I am currently watching the first season of the BBC Four Production A Stitch In Time. The show recreates garments worn by famous people such as Marie Antoinette as well as famous paintings. The seamstresses use only the historical techniques that were available at the time. Fascinating! It took a bit of sleuthing to locate it online here in the U.S. but I finally found  Episode I / Episode II / III / IV / V and VI on glorious YouTube.

Heartfelt Gifts and Smiles

Recently, I have been doing more and more volunteering for historic costuming events at museums and schools. Since this is a fairly new activity I don’t have proper cold weather garments. Lately, it has been REALLY cold in D/FW and I have been a human icicle.

Last weekend I put out a plea for help on Facebook that I needed historically accurate (wool, cotton) cold weather gear such as shawls, sontags, and mitts. Now I personally know several friends and family members who knit and crochet. But I also know we all live busy lives and I would never want to put anyone on the spot. I well know the time it takes to create handmade goods. So this needed to be a heartfelt response to my request. Surprisingly, it was not friends or family members who responded. It was strangers. People I have never met that read this blog or friends of friends.

So this week the women I admire are Melissa, Lynn, and Crystal. What big hearts! You can be sure I will share the finished handicrafts in the future. Their needlecrafts will allow me to keep volunteering, sharing knowledge and spreading sunshine even when it is cold.

With that, I will leave you with this wonderful free printable.

May your week be filled with love and friendship.

Fascinating. I need to look for that show on BBC. I am in Canada and we have the BBC on our cable, hopefully, I can find it.

Stay warm. You have good friends who care about you.

I wish I knew how to knit and crochet. I love taffeta, too. The walking suit is really gorgeous, Laura. You sure did match the plaid beautifully. I watched all of the Stitch in Time programs on your advice and enjoyed them tremendously.
