The last week in January turned out to be a climatic post in the series.
If you only listen to one tip, of the hundreds I have written about over the course of eight years, let this be it:
Do not undertake a renovation if your life is experiencing any major transformations.
Why? Ask any girl who has undertaken a personal renovation the morning after a major haircut.
Do not do it!
I try to take my own good advice and so the brakes were applied while our family experienced a few changes.
So, in a quick recap, I had written about various flooring options as well as what is currently on trend.
What Are The Options?
You may have sensed a theme in the above pictures as to what options Mr. Decor and I have decided upon ~ tile.
Of course, that decision in and of itself opens up several options.
Travertine, Slate, Porcelain, Ceramic… just to name a few.
I love them all when placed in the right setting.
We have opted for a porcelain tile in a lighter color palette.
But there are other factors we still need to decide upon.
GROUT
The current trend is to use grout that is a shade lighter or darker than the tile itself.
PATTERN
A pattern, in regards to how the tile is laid, must be considered.
Then the big decision…
PROFESSIONAL or DIY
Who will do the actual work?

Grout is a problem. I think I still like my tile but I hate my grout. It is not the same color it once was. I like the wood tile mixed in with the other. So fun. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
I had that tile in my last house and I miss it! We had the light grout sealed to help keep it the original color.
Flooring! ACK!
Selecting flooring always boggles my mind, particularly kitchen flooring. Will it look good against the cabinetry, the counters, the back splash?? Is it easy to clean? Will it crack, dent, gauge if a heavy can is dropped?
I suffer from paralysis by analysis.

Thanks for sharing, deciding every detail when renovating a home can be tedious and becomes hard to choose. When choosing grout keep in mind that when you use a contrast grout every single imperfection starts to show, which if you are like me drives me insane. You also need to think about if you are going to have a lot of home decor in your kitchen, if so I urge you to keep the way your floors are tiled, pattern free. This will allow your home decor to make a more drastic effect. Looking forward to seeing what you choose!

So many options, and it's mind-boggling! I admire anyone who tackles these projects as diy's, because for me it's always best to hire a professional, haha!
I am confident that whatever you choose will be no less than lovely! For the past few tile floors that I have been involved with, either for myself or others, I have used the “no grout” option. It still has grout but the tiles are butted up against each other without leaving a space for grout. One of the installers that I used suggested it and I love the results. With a wide grout, cleaning becomes an issue.
These are major decisions. It took two weeks for hired professionals to prepare a bathroom floor to be tiled, take out existing tile in shower and water closet and retile. I can't image demolition DIY. It was a huge mess and took three men working.

Can I tell you not to sweat the grout issue? It's all a farce! Trust me, we had our entire basement finished and part of that was tile floors. I harangued over the grout color, truly I did! But once it was all said and done, grout always ends up looking darker than your initial choice. Over time it all looks black anyway, no matter how often you clean the floors. Not kidding.
