Make Your Own Country Cornhole Game With Hilarious Photos

Hello dear friends! Are you ready to smile? Make Your Own Country Cornhole Game With Hilarious Photos.

Make Your Own Country Cornhole Game With Hilarious Photos

I recently joined KariAnne of Thistlewood Farms for an arts and craft retreat. I shared with the attendees a few projects that could be created with her fabric charm packs. Each pack contains several pieces of delightful fabric that measure  5” x 5”  square.simple charm pack projects

Today I will be featuring how to make a country cornhole game complete with fabric toss bags made from KariAnne’s line from Hoffman Fabrics. The cotton fabric works perfectly for this project as it features a tight weave and is available in several designs and colors.

The game of cornhole is an old-time country favorite that is played much like horseshoes.

I made a few toss bag prototypes before settling on a finished bag that measured 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” square.

To start you will need to cut two fabric squares at 4 1/2” x 4 1/2”.

With right sides together sew the two fabric squares together leaving a 2-inch gap at the top of the square so you can turn the fabric inside out.

Clip a bit off at the corners for a sharper crease.

Turn the square inside out. A seam ripper can assist in gently pulling out the tight corners. Press flat with a warm iron.

Filler Up

There are various ingredients you can use to fill the bags: popcorn, dried beans, lentils, etc.

I used uncooked rice as it fills the corners well and makes a nice weight for tossing.

Then simply sew the top of the bag shut.

For the game board itself, there are numerous construction and playing instructions available on Pinterest.

Beginners Guide to Cornhole

We’ve been replacing large sections of the fence here at Storybook Cottage and decided to use the old wood to create the game board itself.

Mr. Decor created an overall game board that measures 34” x 21”.

One end of the board is 4 1/2” high and the other is 7”. This is so the board is angled a bit so players can see the target.

(This image shows the construction underneath the board.)

The lift was simply created with 2” x 4” blocks.

For two players you will need at least 3 bags in two opposing team colors.

I made a combination of gray and blue from the “Sweet Tea” and “Simply Eclectic” fabric lines.

The Perfect Models

I told my game models to act as if they were posing for “Cornhole Catalog”.

Then of course the dachshunds had to get in on the fun.

Doxies playing cornhole

For a dachshund cornhole toss, you will need to move the boards close together. (They have short tossing arms. 🙂

So who was the “wiener” of the game?

It was a toss-up.

The Sailboat Applique Pillow was the project I ended up entering for the Thistlewood Farms Sweet Tea Fabric Challenge. The post contains a tutorial on how you can make your own.

What a fantastic idea, your game looks like so much fun and l had to chuckle at the doggie up close to the hole trying to figure out what all the fuss is about. Wonderful tutorial thanks so much for sharing.

Loving the bags you made. My MIL has been talking about this game, and ironically enough I was thinking on buying her one for her senior living building so her and her friends could play. Now I am going to start making her one. Thanks so much for the inspiration! I appreciate the tips also on what to fill the bags with!

Your models are the best! They made me laugh. Plus you gave me an idea for when friends are visiting with kids. Last time, an adorable little three year old came and when he saw my room, he looked at me very seriously and asked “where are your toys?” So I know I need a few things to keep them busy and entertain the next time!
