I adore this wee gnome couple sitting in our herb garden. It reminds the Mr. and I of ourselves. Keeping Harmony in the Home and Garden.
Keeping Harmony in the Home and Garden
A few weeks ago we made a trip to a big box store to pick out a storm door. We agreed that the almond colored door with bronze hardware would best fit in with our existing bronze lighting, almond siding, and newly installed gutter system.
Last Saturday Mr. Decor went back to the store to pick up the door. He worked tirelessly all day to install the storm door. Storybook Cottage is an old home filled with odd measurements and charming crooked edges that always offers a challenge to any DIY project.
At the end of the day, he proudly asked me to come and look at the door.
The Wrong Door
I was quiet as my brain began to process that he had purchased the taupe colored door with nickel hardware verses the expected almond colored door with bronze hardware.
A small thing to be sure.
Was I going to make it a big fuss over a door that was difficult to install? A door that is not even our primary entrance or even our secondary entrance. It is a door that is rarely if ever, used.
At his prompting, I was honest and said “It looks really good. I just had to process that this was not the door we had picked out.”
The lightbulb went on in his brain and he said, “Oh it’s the wrong color. I will take it down and exchange it.”
To which I informed him that this door was staying put.
Because truly there is so much more to focus on instead.
The daylilies we planted last year are blooming.
Despite all the recent rain, there are buds and blossoms on the “Angel Face” rose tree.
The white vinca and purple petunias are full of life.
Last years salvia has returned.
We got the old mailbox posted into the ground.
It will soon be covered in the morning glories started from seed.
Truly there is so much beauty to see instead.
Like this sweet vintage fountain, I found for a song.
A Better Focus
Every time I see the fountain it brings a smile to my face with its happy reminder of love.
Beyond it, you can hardly see the off colored door.
I truly would much rather focus on this.
May you choose to see love.

Laura,
Love the storm door and all the beautiful blooms that you shared in this post! I would be honored if you mentioned my blog in your post! I am so flattered. I will tell you that the large galvanized tub that I shared at the end of the post that you commented on will be for my new larger fairy garden once I can put it all together as soon as the rain that we have been getting almost daily here stops! Thanks so much for stopping by and thanks for considering mentioning me in your post!!
Hugs,
Deb

We have to pick and choose our battles wisely, don't we? The door looks nice and new, and kudos to your husband for his hard work installing it! 🙂 Your flowers are beautiful! What wonderful pretties to focus on! ~Rhonda

I agree, kudos to your husband and kudos for his volunteering to take it down, bring it back to the store, and then going through the installation process again! Actually, I think it looks fine. It's a neutral color that blends with its surroundings nicely, IMO.
Your garden is lovely. I can't wait to see the pictures of the morning glories in full bloom. One of my favorites!

Laura, you are so wise. To think before you speak is so wise and such an inspiration to me today. Your husband did work hard and to realize this wasn't an important issue was tremendous. You live out your faith.
I love the Message paraphrase from James.
Have a wonderful week. I am having trouble reposting a post to link up tomorrow at the garden party. I'll keep trying.

You, my friend, are a very smart woman. And I love that you have your priorities so straight! I know it must have been disappointing but it really does look lovely and your garden is beautiful beyond words.
I'm sharing my Southern Exposure visit (which I had on TOTOH last week) since this is also on Share Your Cup and also because I've been too swamped to do much with my yard yet! That's what this week is for. Can't wait to get some good inspiration!
I'm keeping this post close to my heart.

Love the gnomes! I can imagine the disappointment when you saw the door but it was wise to leave it be. It could be painted some day if need be. Looks like your flowers are coming along nicely. The lilies are so pretty and so is the rose. Roses love water so I'm sure they didn't mind all the rain. That mail box post will look awesome ti the morning glories climbin all over it. Love the sweet vintage fountain.

I guess I am the only one as no one else mentioned it, but I think that door looks better than almond would. I really like it and the gnomes. I have a 100 year old Edwardian birdbath in the back of my building, Laura. When I was at Lowe's buying plants, I saw one that I had with a gnome standing next to a red topped mushroom and the top of the mushroom was the birdbath. I wanted it! I am an antique dealer. I questioned why would I want to take out this big classic birdbath with the lichen and replace it with a plastic toadstool? Because it was so darn cute, that's why!

Laura- you are so wise.
I haven't always been so wise.
Your focus on the beautiful instead is the right choice 🙂
