It seems that the entire planet has fallen for Chip and Jo of HGTV’s Fixer Upper. Here are Tips For Touring The Magnolia Market & Silos.
Tips For Touring The Magnolia Market & Silos
Last year on the way home from Round Top antique week I had stopped by the original teeny tiny Magnolia Market. What a difference a year makes! The new site is quite large and very impressive.
The #1 question I received on Facebook and Instagram was “Did you go inside the silo’s?”
The silos are currently not open. At this time they are just a really cool backdrop.
When planning our trip to Round Top I had asked my friend Meri if she wanted to make a detour to Waco. Her answer was a resounding “Yes!” as she is a huge fan. But know this:
2. Unless you are tremendously lucky, you will not see Chip and Joanna. You will, however, see some shiplap.
In planning the trip I had read that lines just to get into the store can sometimes rival Disneyland. As it was also spring break and antique week in Round Top I assumed there would be large crowds. I was not wrong.
My best advice:
3. Try to arrive at the site right when it opens at 10 am.
Even still, the place was packed.
I tried to shoot several vignettes before the store completely filled up.
Keep In Mind
But eventually, you will find that there are necks of random strangers in your images. So…
4. Have patience.
There is some merchandise that you could probably find for less at another home store.
5. If you decide to buy, buy local.
Such as these lovely hand poured candles.
The “Magnolia” coffee cups are also made by a local ceramist (potter) for the store.
Eye Candy
6. Make sure to study the display’s.
This charming artwork was merely a piece of painted plywood with faux flowers attached with washi tape.
7. Don’t forget to look up.
I loved these old wire lamp shades covered in moss. Wouldn’t they be pretty hanging over a garden party table?
There is a sale area downstairs that is quite popular.
My friend Meri found several things to take home in her suitcase.
8. Step outside and tour the entire site.
There is a nice play area complete with lawn toys.
The Garden Area
I myself loved the garden area the best.
All the food grown in the raised garden beds is given to aide World Hunger Relief.
As a fan of miniatures, I loved the wee fairy gardens.
There is a chicken coop to the left of the garden shop that also had a few goats.
From the garden area, you can see the staircase that leads to Chip and Joanna’s offices.
No, I didn’t climb them. 🙂
The Food Trucks
Over in the food truck area, you can see just how massive the silos are. The small building to the right of the silos will be the site of the new bakery, Magnolia Flour, set to open in May.
9. By all means, make sure you order something to eat. My lunch was delicious!
10. Some things never change. The line for the women’s bathroom was 20 deep.
While I waited I took note of some of the sweet touches in the area and cheered on the two women who snuck into the empty men’s room.

Looks very pretty. Although I will admit I have never watched the show and only know them by word of mouth on other blogs.

Loved reading your post! I love watching the show and really would love to visit the shop also, but I am glad you mentioned that “some” things you may find cheaper. I was wondering if things were a bit pricey. Not that they probably aren't worth it, but I have been known to wait for the “clearance” events. lol

I have been to the Magnolia twice now- once a mont after it opened and just recently. Such a cool place. However, it gets busier everytime I go. So be prepared for a TON of people. I enjoyed both time, and always get great ideas!

Laura, We must have just missed each other. We drove to Texas from Michigan to stay with our oldest son and family. They live just over an hour away from Waco, so I told my husband I wasn't going back to Michigan without going to Waco…LOL! I did a couple of blog postings when we returned home, one of them being 10 things you NEED to know BEFORE going to Magnolia Market. It was jammed pack! We had talked about going to Round Top, but it was just too far and we would have had to stay over somewhere. Maybe another time. I'm visiting from Thoughts of Home on Thursday.

Oh, thank you for the wonderful tour, Laura! I was kind of late to the party that is Chip and Joanna's Fixer Upper, but have thoroughly enjoyed it for the last year….The Man likes it, too! I am so happy for their wonderful success. It's so much fun visiting Magnolia Market through the lens of others, and doesn't cause a panic attack for this claustrophobe!
Thanks for sharing, Laura, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
