ORC 3 Yikes The Halfway Point

Oh my goodness. This week of the One Room Challenge always instills panic within me. I feel like I am not going to finish on time. Stress is running high.

ORC 3 Yikes The Halfway Point

ORC 3 Yikes The Halfway Point

But we did get quite a bit accomplished this past week.

Much to the probable dismay of those who expressed their love for it, I removed the wine rack from the ceiling. The wine vine wallpaper border was also removed and revealed… yet another wallpaper border that I would have to spend 3 hours taking down. #%@&!

The too small on one side black mirror frame was also furiously yanked down.

Then the bathroom walls received two coats of Gustavian Blue by Ralph Lauren and breathed a sigh of relief. This step in all likelihood should have been saved for next week but… *

Mr. Decor next removed the huge, gross, water sucking, elongated toilet.

Then he ripped up the ugly, peeling linoleum and laid down tile.

This was topped off by a new, smaller toilet that is a much better size for the small space.

(The creamy white band at the bottom of the photo is part of the sink. #tinyroom )

Now some of you wanted to know why we were replacing the sink.

(The yellow blotch on the upper left-hand side of the backsplash is permanent.)

old sink

I’m sure at one time the sink was white. Now it is sadly a yellow beige.

The new paint job only accentuates this fact.

No amount of scrubbing can get it clean and there are numerous cigarette burn marks.

(We are not smokers.)

So, it’s a good decision to replace the sink, yes?

In week 4 we will be trying to:

  • Remove the old sink top.
  • Carefully remove the old mirror.
  • *Patch all the bad walls and paint them Gustavian Blue.
  • Hang a new mirror.
  • Paint the vanity Club Navy by Ralph Lauren.
  • Select new hardware for the vanity.

Week 5

  • Install the new sink.
  • Install the new faucet, bathroom tissue holder and hand towel bar.
  • Create a white Roman window shade.
  • Select and hang artwork
  • Decorate and photograph the space for the Week 6 reveal.

ORC

Did I mention that all of this will occur at the same time as my college finals?

I think I can.

Laura

Good Morning! You are doing great with the renos and all you have on your plate. AND remember…even if you don't finish the bath by the deadline, you are still getting it done and it will be so beautiful. ALL of your faithful readers will definitely forgive you and the family home will be much more beautiful when ever it is completed. Don't stress! We just did our baths recently and they are complicated little rooms for the size of them! lol
Good luck with your finals! How fast the school year goes by. Fingers crossed for you. 🙂

Wow you did a lot this past week! I agree that changing that sink will make a huge difference. It will be fresh and pretty like the rest of the room. Hope you don't have to paint again after that though.

Hi Laura, wow looks like a lot was accomplished. Love the new paint color for the walls. Soft and relaxing. Yes, great idea to remove the sink. It will make a huge difference. Have fun and enjoy the process. xo

    Laura,

Looks like y'all accomplished a lot this week. I too, got the decorating itch and re-did our powder bathroom last week. We had redone the floor, toilet and vanity about two years ago, but it needed a fresh coat of paint, and a change-up of décor.

    Excited for your reveal,
    ~Kiki~

    Laura,
Of course, I love the beautiful blue paint. You all did so much this past week, and it all looks fantastic. Yes, the sink needs to go. You will have to share your tips for removing old wallpaper.

The blue paint is very pretty, Laura. Our downstairs powder room is about this same size and has no windows. It still has the same wall paper as when we moved in when the house was new. My plan is to do some painting real soon. Your room is looking great!

Yea for the wine rack down, Laura! The paint color is very soothing and yes, the toilet is much better. I look forward to the progress.
I loved reading your posts on what you wanted to buy and what you did buy at Round Top. Love the ribbon for your cameo, the darling hat, and all the other fabrics, trim, laces! I just wanna go to Round Top!!

Your bathroom looks so good! Everytime you wrote about the wine rack I can't help but wonder who'd want to drink from glasses that have been hanging on the bathroom. Ewwww!

I think it would be funny to put the wine rack out by the mailbox so any of the x-owner's local friends could drive by and see and and wonder what you are doing inside! I'm imagining you standing up on top of that vanity to take the picture of the new commode! LOL… After removing wallpaper in this house I vowed never again will I put up any more! I like the blue colors you've chosen. That navy blue base cabinet color will be sharp! When we bought this house the people that lived here were smokers. They left cigarettes on the edge of the sink and toilet for me and a note that the belt broke on the vacuum and apologized for not cleaning…. ha ha…. Lol…didn't matter since we pretty much gutted the place. Your home stories remind me a bit of what we went through.

I love the blue you chose. It is so calming. You made a ton of progress. Way to go. I forgot to add styling and photography to my timeline. EEK!

Replacing the vanity counter makes sense since you're already renovating the rest of the space. Hopefully the removal goes well 🙂
