Do you hear that? The silence? That’s right, all is quiet on the cottage front because today is BACK TO SCHOOL! The day all mothers half dread and half adore. We had a very busy weekend preparing for this auspicious day. But I did sneak in one wee craft for the front door. A Bit of Fall for the Front Door.
A Bit of Fall for the Front Door
My friend Marty from A Stroll Thru Life is hosting a Fall Home Tour and has graciously invited me to join in the fun. It is scheduled for September 7th through the 11th. With the way time flies, I thought I’d better get started.
I wanted to create a welcoming arrangement for the front door. As I am not a big fan of the colors orange and rust fall décor can be a bit tricky. But I found some inspiration in the floral aisle of At Home (formerly Garden Ridge).
My favorite finds were the faux oak leaf stems that featured tiny little acorns.
A Bit of Sparkle
I thought it might be fun to add a bit of sparkle so out came the glue and glitter.
The pumpkin stems now have a bit of panache as well.
Front Door with Oval Window
One challenge I have is that our front door features a long oval window. Traditional round wreaths look rather out of place. So when I spied a metal basket with touches of a darker shade of our front door color I felt as though I had found a winner.
I positioned a block of florist foam inside the metal basket and began adding in the faux flora and fauna until it was a truly bountiful harvest.
As I stepped back I decided it needed a bit of ribbon so that it could hang a bit lower on the door. I didn’t have any on hand but I’ll make sure it’s done by the home tour.
The paint color can be found HERE.
Because it’s Monday I thought I would give you a “Keepin’ it real” shot. While I was hanging up the fall basket Franz caught a frog and brought it to me in his mouth as a gift. Blah!
Have you gotten any special gifts lately?

A beautiful autumnal welcome for visitors and a glimpse of the creativity and beauty lies within.
We has the first of our spring weather last weekend, but it quickly reverted back to winter today, with some icy blasts of wind straight from the antarctic! Bisous

LOVE what you created, Laura! Very, very pretty; love the colors! Yikes on Franz catching the frog – I love frogs, I think I would scream, lol! 😉
With the fall-like weather that we are experiencing here in Illinois right now – it's lovely out!! – I've been tempted to get out my seasonal decor, but I'm waiting one more week until September, since I know it's only a matter of time where it will be hot and humid again and we'll be using our pool. We leave our pool opened until the end of September since it's normally hot until then here.
As for gifts – well yes, as you already saw on my Facebook or Instagram page – Jim bought me the most lovely traveling writer's desk from an antique shop in nearby Paxton, over the weekend. 🙂
Today, my girl begins her 2nd year of College (she lives at home still since it's community college nearby). She's beginning a new program major in Art & Design and I'm a little nervous for her, hoping she will have a much better 2nd year. Have a great week!
Love, Linda

I love it! I have decided not to use traditional fall colors, either. I am doing a mostly white fall. Lots of white pumpkins.

Such a beautiful display for your front door. Fall is such a lovely time of year. Love the warm colors. I can do without those kind of gifts. I do understand because our Dante catch lizards.

That wreath is gorgeous! You are so talented. We have tons of frogs at our house so Franz would have plenty of fun.

Love the colors you used in the “wreath”..and YES, my doggies “bring” me little frogs…or I should say, I have to take the frog from her…she is a stinker. Makes me sad that she keeps finding the frogs…we need them and they don't survive her “playing” with them.

That is too funny. Dixie would be too freaked out to pick up a frog. Your door decor is adorable. Enjoy the peace and quiet of the first days of school. I can't wait to see the rest of your fall home tour.

Awww… poor frog! Bubba caught a mouse the other day and I freaked out LOL
The door decor turned out beautiful. I love those little flowers trailing down.
Thank you for your friendship too, Laura. I'm so glad we connected again after my “extended break” 😉

I love that door color and your wreath looks wonderful! Fall is coming, I know, but I try to hang on until September before putting out the fall decor. Summer is all too short around here as it is.

I love your door decor and the fact that it's not a wreath. I also have frequent gifts from my fur family members, mostly mice though. Frogs here have a poison of some kind on their skins so the cats keep away from them!
