The French Hutch is Painted

FINALLY!  The French Hutch is Painted.

The French Hutch is Painted

The French Hutch is Painted

Here is the “BEFORE”  of the hutch in all it’s 70’s faded yellow, with brassy gold highlights, glory.

It’s been sitting around waiting for a paint job for eight months.

The color is “Florentine” with just a tiny bit of “Antibes Green” mixed in.  Both are from the Annie Sloan chalk paint line. After drying clear wax was used to seal the paint with a bit of DecoArt Metallic Lustre wax in gold to highlight the details.

The color is really bright. In the middle of the process, I considered changing the color but thought that once the treillis métallique (wire mesh) and the original hardware was reinstalled it would probably be perfect in our rather dark living room. I was right!

The interior was painted a cottage white to match the walls and keep it from becoming too dark. I’m still working on what will go inside the hutch.

But here she is in all her bright green glory!

I hung a few favorite paintings right next to my freshly painted hutch. A watercolor I found in Germany reminds me of Sweet Guy and an oil painting of Texas bluebonnets that was a recent $10 estate sale find.

The colors are working very nicely together.

For all this goodness there is still so much to do with this space. I need to sew the curtains for the dining area and pillows for the living area, more artwork needs to be created and accessorizing.

The chair frames are getting painted at “A Lady’s Touch” later this week and then they will be sent to the upholstery shop.

Of course, there is always a glitch in the works. I don’t think the fireplace cabinets will be finished in time. It’s been one thing after another. While they will EVENTUALLY get done I have accepted that sadly it won’t be in time for the big reveal. Worse things could happen.

How is your week going?

That looks beautiful, Laura!! I love the color and I have some blueish furniture items in our home, though I didn't paint them. I just don't have time for that – all of my energies away from being at work, are spent in the yard at this time of year. If I could be outside every day, all day, I'd be happy – gardening, planning, working, photographing…. that is what I'd truly love to be doing, but alas, I have to spend at least the weekdays inside at the boring office. Such is life at least until I retire in a few years

Anyway – I love what you're accomplishing there at your new home. ♥

Totally understand you, with my 3 kids, I can't DIY a lot of the stuff in the nursery I knew I could! Love the work she did and the choice you made on it, so excited to see the entire space already!

You can't do everything, Laura! I'll bet you felt some relief on passing the painting of this piece off to someone else. It looks wonderful and she did a great job. I can't wait to see this room and I'll bet being involved in this challenge really helps to get things done.

Perfection! I would have never imagined a teal hutch, but this is absolutely perfect. Ashley did a wonderful job. The paintings accompany the hutch nicely. I'm looking forward to seeing how you style it now!

Love the color! I'm so tired of whites and neutrals. Maybe it's the Spring bringing it out. Loving bright colors these days.

After that story you wrote about your friend who lost her battle with cancer, it is all just so silly. Great color choice, do what you can, and smile every day!

What a pretty piece of furniture! When you had said something about painting it green, I just couldn't imagine how that was going to work but, by golly, it is stunning. I love the gilding touches.
Can't wait to see your reveal! 🙂
