You remember the wine rack bathroom right? It’s right off of the family room.
This is not the wine rack bathroom. It’s what the wine rack bathroom wants to be when it gets out of college and grows up.
So you may remember I took down the wine rack above the bathroom sink/mirror.
Once the wine rack was down I removed the double stick tape frame from around the mirror since it was now several inches too short.
So we were left with a really large builders grade mirror in a truly tiny space.
In yet another unfortunate builder grade DIY the large mirror is not attached to the wall with clips. It is securely and permanently epoxied to the wall itself. If I want to remove the mirror the wall will have to come with it.
At this time that is not an option. So plan B is to once again frame out the mirror but this time do it RIGHT! Then add a prettier mirror on top of it. Kind of like this:
So the good news is that the yucky toilet and mildewed linoleum has been replaced.
Mr. Décor is in the process of adding all new baseboards. You can also see that the bad gas station bathroom walls received several coats of “Gustavian Blue” by Ralph Lauren and all the trim was painted “Du Jour” by Valspar.
But a funny things happened…the sink didn’t look THAT bad when the walls were bad gas station bathroom brown…
But once the fresh paint was up on the walls the sink just looked yellowed and really grungy. $%#*&#!!!!!!
So I researched for ways to update the sink and found a few tutorials. To buy the epoxy, pre cleaner, brushes, etc. I would be looking at around a $60 investment and about 6 hours of my time. The problem is that quite a few of the reviews on Ace Hardware and other sites mention that within a few months the product chips off.
So back to square 1. We need to update our 30 year old sink. Which might mean some drywall repair issues when we take it out. Sigh. We are looking to replace it with this $98 sink.
If the vanity survives the sink install it will be getting a few coats of #3 Ralph Lauren “Club Navy”.
I think touches of silver will pair nicely with the blue and white.
For the window I want to keep things simple such as a white Roman shade perhaps with a touch of navy.
I’d better get to work.

This country should pass a law prohibiting the use of beige, brown and yellowy white. We've started looking for a new house and all the brown depresses me so much! The problem is that so many of the building trades are dominated by men and they love brown. I think it has something to do with a primal urge towards cooked meat.
Good luck with the sink and I look forward to seeing the next transformation!

Love your inspiration, it will look totally amazing. I hope the top comes off without a problem. Can't wait to see more.

I love your colour scheme. But..and you are not going to like this…rip out the vanity sink, the wall with the mirror, and do it right. It will be messy. It will cost a few dollars more. BUT you will be so much happier when it's done. It's going to be the bath that all you company will 'pop' into. It's going to be open to your family room (a bit of a head scratcher, but whatever!). It's not that big a room and a sheet of gypsum board is not that much. Put in a nice little sink, a mirror and light you like. You will never have to apologize to company. You won't have to close the door just to keep from being annoyed. And it will save you the work down the road. Words of experience. It's better to do it once right than to have to redo it all because it wasn't done the way you wanted in the first place.
Sorry, I told you you wouldn't like it! :/ Hope I didn't ruin your day.

Everything you do is lovely. 🙂 I can't get over renovating an entire house at the start; something we've never done. Of course, our house was bought new 15 years ago, but it's all very standard, and we've slowly every-so-often updated something. I look around and see so many things after 15 years that need updating, but since we don't really care all that much, they just stay how they are and somehow it looks okay. Lately it's enough for me just to dust once in a while; I'm just not motivated for other improvements, but I do love to see what you've done with your home.

I had to smile when I read this, since I can identify with how one little thing leads to another and another. The blue paint is really pretty and the idea of using the navy on the vanity is such a good one. The shade in the bathroom you posted with the blue stripes is so pretty. Whatever you do is bound to be beautiful, Laura, and I am anxious to see the finished room. You always inspire me, friend!

I just have to snicker when you talk about the wine rack bathroom! Whoever lived there was real unique 🙂 This home I live in was a real fixer upper so I can relate! We had to jack hammer our basement bathroom apart – so much fun! Good luck with the vanity top- the ole' domino effect!

I love your inspiration picture… and the way you presented it 😉 I love the idea of navy on the vanity and the Gustavian paint is gorgeous.

It's one thing after another in that bathroom, huh, Laura? : ) It sounds like what we just did in our master bath. We replaced the vanity tops/sinks with a more shiny or glossy vanity. The one that was there was flat and it looks like that is what you have, too. My husband thinks the flat looks dirtier than the glossy. We also went with a two handle faucet instead of one. We are almost done with ours. I still have pictures to hang and the new cabinet just came yesterday so I have the shelves to accessorize. I'm sure you can't wait to finish it! I know I can't wait for ours to be completed.
