It is 10:30 on Tuesday night as I write this post. I should be sleeping as I have been working 12-14 hours a day on the house while trying to recover from strep throat. I think the cleaning portion of the program will be finished tomorrow and I am feeling a wee bit better. Hurray for small victories!
If you are following our slow progress on Instagram you know I have been pondering just how I was going to paint our very tall stairwell. Mr. Decor and I finally threw in the DIY towel and I have been interviewing painting crews. (On a side note, Rudi the dachshund has already been trained not to climb the stairs but to wait for someone to carry him thus saving wear and tear on his delicate old back. 🙂
We have already washed all the ceilings, walls, and baseboards. Some of the walls felt like Swiss cheese once the million wall anchors were removed but they have now been spackled.
I spent a good portion of Tuesday removing the many layers of contact paper from cabinet shelves. It was coming up in tiny, thin strips. Grrrrrr! Afterwards everything received a good scrubbing with TCP.
Now for your viewing pleasure, may I present the Storybook Tour Part One.

I say “all right” entirely too much in the videos but I am just too tuckered out to go back and edit then reload. The WiFi in our hotel room is dial up SLOOOOWWWW. Perhaps it just gives you a good giggle.
Let me close by saying “thank you” for all your lovely comments, good thoughts and special prayers. Your sweet friendship is such a blessing to me.

I've never understood the attraction to beige/brown that some people have. I find it so depressing! Paint will go a long way towards lightening up the kitchen and all the other spaces – and you are right that the bones are good and there's good space. You are so right about that crazy cabinet over the upstairs toilet BTW!
I'm sure it will be a showplace when you finish and I look forward to sharing the journey with you!

Oh Laura, I am so thrilled you are hiring some painters. That will be a huge blessing. Take care and rest a little. Can't wait to see it all come together, but remember, enjoy the journey.

I have missed so much! I can't believe I am JUST NOW learning about the wine rack in the man cave bath. Wowsers! And NOW I understand the type of person you purchased the home from…you know. That person who allowed her friend to make your first afternoon less than pleasant. But, ONWARD! Thank goodness you have removed the shelf liner. Whew! I look forward to bringing you a new potted plant! 🙂 ~Mindy

Love your new house! Plenty of space. And I was wondering about Grandma Jingles, so I am glad you mentioned her. I do love the brick fireplace and in the kitchen too. A new home with some character. Get some rest when you can!

Thanks for the tour, Laura. It's going to be a great house for you and your family. I would be buying gallons of light coloured paint, too, for that ceiling in the kitchen. What a marvelous space! Brown and beige have never appealed to me yet for so many years they were the “go to” colours. I'm all about cool tones and white and light! Looking forward to seeing the progress. Little by little.

thank you Laura for the tour of your new home. I know that after you finish painting and decorating your home will be marvelous. Sorry to hear you have been sick…you have been under such stress lately..please take care of yourself.

Oh it's a wonderful home with good bones! I agree on the ceiling paint in the kitchen even though I tend to protect the integrity of natural stained wood, but in this case it dates it and darkens the room way too much. I remember when vinyl flooring was pretty much what everyone did. It can be a stinker to get off but it is easy to clean and take care of! We hired some painters for our home and it ws the best thing ever. We were lucky to find some reasonably priced, honest people and we've used them more than once. I hope your furniture arrives soon and that you are feeling much better.

I agree re: painting the wood in the kitchen and the man cave. I'm not one for browns, beiges and neutrals ~ the dark wood is too depressing, IMHO. You have some great spaces and it's going to be spectacular when you finish!
Hope that you are feeling much better too. I honestly don't know how you're doing all this…guess you're running on adrenalin. The prayers will continue!
