Home Hunters Texas Edition #3 The Storybook Charmer

The last home we are considering to make our own is the Storybook Charmer. It aptly received that title on the original architectural plans.

It’s a brick home with a detached garage in a quiet neighborhood.

Walking in the front door there is a great room that leads into a sunroom.

1-IMG_8103-002

The great room has a brick fireplace. Still wondering exactly how I would decorate all that!

Tip!: A mirror should always reflect something beautiful.

1-IMG_8106

The sunroom leads into the backyard.

1-IMG_8102-001

The back yard has a garden that has tons of potential! I can even imagine filling the flower boxes on the out building. (It’s too nice to be called a shed. 🙂

Back inside, to the left of the entry, is a formal dining area.

1-IMG_8104-002

To the right is a staircase which leads to an upstairs office space with built ins, a bedroom and a small full bathroom featuring an elephant and monkey  wallpaper boarder.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r3GiTMEB04]

Just past the staircase on one side of a hallway are two bedrooms and a full bathroom.

1-IMG_8107-002

On the other end of the hallway is the master bedroom and bathroom. While many are fans of painting out step up ceilings to put the focus on the architecture, in this case the ceiling height is not high enough and it ends up just making the room appear shorter than it actually is. So, this would require a paint job to take the green back to ceiling white.

1-IMG_8115-002

This is the first time I’ve seen grapevine wallpaper in a bathroom. Normally it’s found in the kitchen.

1-IMG_8116-001

Now onto the kitchen which is past the great room. It is currently a dark cave. Talk about a paint job!

However, my favorite detail in the entire house can be found in the half bath. Warning: do not drink anything while viewing this video as you may end up spraying your beverage all over your computer screen. 🙂

So now it’s that time. Do you think we should choose…

House #1 ~ The Red Bricked Beauty

1-IMG_8056

House #2 The Character Filled Home

1-IMG_8123_thumb

Or todays house, the third and final option~ The Storybook Charmer?

The selection will be revealed on Sunday.

Wow! I think I might like this one the best; it's lovely!! 🙂 But I know that whichever you pick will be a wonderful home for you and your sweet family.
Have a nice weekend, my friend.
    Love, Linda

This one is my favorite. Lots of potential – the yard looks great. Good luck!

I know that you can work wonders on any of the three but I'm thinking you will chose the storybook charmer. Can't wait to see!

Chuckling at the wine cellar in the guest bath, quite a space saver as long as you can control the temperature!!
Great home overall though and I can easily picture painting out the beadboard!

Maybe it's a magazine rack! Very appropriate for a bathroom.

All three would be a good choice, but I think it is maybe this one. I love the ceilings in the kitchen which I can see white and the brick walls. I love the color of the brick.

Oh dear!!! That would be hard to decide between these houses. You said in the number 3 house in the video that the kitchen
ceiling could be painted white—- can you just imagine what it would take to climb up and paint those ceilings ??? And also all of that brick around the kitchen and the stove area– that should all go –the whole house is much too dark– but how would you like to try and clean that brick in the kitchen when cooking and frying splatters grease all over that brick. The cabinets in all of the houses are too short and would need to have the soffits removed and replaced with 42 inch cabinets. The second house has a weird layout with where the staircase is for the upstairs. All of the houses have windows that would present hard challenges for window treatments. You said that the number one house was in your favorite location. Maybe that one would work the best due to the fact that it has alot of light— has the best curb appeal—and has a nice glassed in porch for year round use. Even though the back yard is small–you live in the house — not the yard and if you get rid of all those rocks and put in grass it could be landscaped like an adorable charleston garden–the small size is what makes Charleston gardens so enchanting— Good luck with the one you choose — I am sure you will make any of them fit your needs and look wonderful for your family. In the beginning when you were choosing between Texas and Virginia for your new home I was hoping that you would choose Virginia because they have trees and lots of “green” there and there is so much to do and see in the east coast area for families. I wish you and your husband much success in the future and I hope you will enjoy all of the new projects that are waiting for you in your new home.

So, the other day when we started this journey, you kind of had me at “storybrook” and I thought that would be my favorite one. I did like many things about it. Love the ceiling in the kitchen and the yard is wonderful. The traffic noise would concern me a little. So, today after reviewing and thinking, I'm not really sure, but I have ruled out house #1 and I'm going to say that you have chosen house #2, although there is a strong case for house# 3 because you showed more video and you used the word fantastic a few times. So, hmmm, maybe house # 3. Whichever one you have chosen, I know it will be beautiful and just the perfect home for your family! All the best as you embark on your new adventure!

    September 5, 2014 at 6:29 pm

oh and you have also showed us the kitchen for house #3 in an earlier post, so that might have been a little foreshadowing. So, that is making a pretty strong case for house #3. And, of course, the “bar” in the bathroom kind of clinches the deal. 🙂

I just saw house #2 now too Laura, it's a tough decision for you guys, they all have their charm and appeal, personally, I love this last one the most. Good luck, and can't wait which one you pick!

Oh dear, all of these have features and drawbacks, so I will wait patiently for your decision reveal before I say anything. 🙂

I have no idea what happened to my comment ~ hit Publish and it disappeared! Anyway, this is THE house! I love it from the front yard to the back fence. Everything can be painted and you will have it looking beautiful. A good painter can get to that kitchen ceiling! 🙂 Now that bath with the wine accommodations is something else! Perhaps the person had too much wine when that space was designed.

I hope this is the one ~ and I hope it's near me! 🙂

I think you are choosing between home #2 and home # 3. Home #1 is out, it's at the top end of your budget. I think the backyard in #3 has tons of potential, although the noise might bother me… but if you can't hear it inside I could get used to it. I think the kitchen in #3 has much more to offer. But what has me sold is the out building….you didn't mention if it had a bathroom or kitchen…if it did it might be a perfect house for the Fashionista or maybe your Grandma. If not it's a perfect office for Decore To Adore! House. Number 3 is my favorite!! Can't wait to see which you choose!!

Oh I like the storybook charmer – especially the wine cellar in the half bath! Who knew that would be the newest trend? I'm sure whichever one you choose will be beautiful when you get through making the changes to make it into your home.

Well, I'm not disappointed with this house, Laura. A few quirks, like the hot water heater (?) in the dining room behind that door that I thought was a closet for linens, the wine holder in the half bath [which I guess makes sense since it is going to wind up in there at some point anyway : ) ], and some cosmetic changes as far as wallpaper and paint. I love the outside of the house and the yard. The rooms themselves seem like a good size with lots of natural light. That one bathroom seems kind of small for a full bath but if one of the kids lays claim to that side of the house, they will have their own little suite set up.

I'm dying to know which you've decided on. Eric must have loved all the wood in this house. I know my husband would have been taken with all those beams and stained moldings, etc.

This is really hard, Laura, but I know you have one in your heart! I like the 2nd one but prefer the kitchen in the 3rd one…that's just where my true love lies!

I can't wait to see what you and your family decide to do! 🙂

Love the Story Book one, but there's lot's to do, but hey, there will always be things to do to a new house to meet our needs and style we like to achieve, plus I know you will choose the best one, as you have great taste, sweet friend!
Enjoy the weekend and can't wait to hear your decision ! Thanks for your kind visit, you made my day!

Well this is quite a custom home and there are many charming details in it. I can see where painting the ceilings white in the kitchen would help a lot. I'm kind of digging on that mini bar in the bathroom! LOL That's a stitch! Love the exterior of this one a lot too and the property looks beautiful. I'm curious which home you chose! I'm between 1 and 3!

Getting tired of all the 'tuscan' brown and gold. I find it so depressing! If you buy this one, the demand curve for white paint will be off the charts. Can't wait for tomorrow's reveal.

I could so understand your thoughts about “deserving.” When Bob and I built our home last year, all I could do was think of less fortunate family and friends and it made me feel bad. I had to get over the “deserving” part. My husband and I worked very hard to get to this point. I had to really think about that. Glad you are working through this because you are deserving! The house is fabulous. I am so looking forward to your touches on this home.

It's so nice to hear your sweet voice on the videos. Of course you knew we would want to see into the half bath! OH MY! How funny! Who in the world thought this was the perfect place for wine and wine glasses….we'll probably never know! But I do love the Storybook charmer and all of your ideas for brightening the rooms. Eat drink and be merry! lol Sweet hugs, Diane
